How well does this stay closed? If I have it attached to my backpack, do i need to worry about it opening if it gets set down or bumped?

Stays closed great. Mine has never come open.

No, it will close right after you take your hand out of it due to the magnets.

Can this fit into a sweater or jacket pocket?

It fits in my winter coat pocket, but it is harder to get your hand in and out if you are treating frequently. Best cliped on a pants pocket.
