Q: Would you recomend the pro or max for my 80 year old mother who gets very little excerxise?

I only know that I love the pro. I am a 69 year old who has RA, diabetes, and lots of other things that make it difficult for me to walk and exercise. I received this as a gift from my son. I use it every day for at least 8,000 steps and can tell if I miss a day. It may take a day or so to get used to the machine but I think the pro will be great it is not too fast. I crochet, read, or watch TV while using it. Whatever you get GET ONE FOR Your Mother. No more leg cramps!!!

Q: Is there a weight limit?

It is not to stand on so weight should not matter. Only the feet should rest on the foot pads. If used improperly, motor could burn out with excess weight. I do not see a limit on it . It is a great exercise machine for anyone with limited mobility! Also great for improving circulation.

Q: How long should you start out using this?

I just began after a long break. A couple mins is all I can do, (bad knees) maybe start slow and see how you feel. Not sure where instruction book is. But maybe google product, then how to use??
