OXO Good Grips Pepper Mill with Rotating Handle

The Oxo Pepper Mill is simply marvelous: It is the easiest to use, best designed peppermill I have ever seen. > Just a few turns smoothly and effortlessly grinds as much pepper as I need. Fortunately, I don't have arthritis, but the Oxo peppermill would be a Godsend for anyone with arthritis who likes to cook. > The clear bin-like door on the side easily pivots open for filling the grinder with peppercorns. "But it doesn't match my salt-shaker!" Okay then, buy a second one and a package of coarse sea-salt, and really impress your guests by also grinding your salt. Or just buy a similar salt shaker. > The mill is large enough and holds enough peppercorns for commercial kitchen use. > Other reviewers report using it for other spices. I'm thinking about using it for grinding coffee beans when the power is out. Suggestion: I use alot of pepper, but cooking for two, the Oxo holds enough peppercorns for 6 months at the rate I use pepper. Point being, it is better to load the mill with a teaspoon or two of pepper at at time so that it keeps fresh. There are very few products I purchase for which I cannot imagine ANY possible improvement---except possibly a slightly smaller version specifically for table use. Now that I've had this pepper grinder for a few months, I'm ready to weigh in on it. In short, I LOVE IT! What I like most about it: 1. It's a nice size. Not ginormous, not petite, it fits nicely in everyone's hands in the house. 2. Easy to operate. The crank works exceptionally well. Much better than grasping and twisting the ball head of most pepper grinders. 3. Clear window. You always know exactly how many peppercorns are left and when it's time for a refill, unlike the wood or metal grinders that keep you guessing. 4. Easy refill. It just doesn't get any easier! Open the clear window, pour in the peppercorns, close the window. No taking anything apart, unscrewing anything, making a big mess as the pepper falls out everywhere - that's all a thing of the past. 5. Bottom Lid. A plastic lid on the bottom keeps the ground pepper "dust" from getting all over counters, tables, or wherever it happens to be. Pull off the lid to use it, put it back on when done, and leave the cleanup issues behind you. 6. Easy coarse/fine adjustment. On the bottom, an easy to operate twist mechanism with clear indicators of which way to twist it for finer or coarser ground pepper. 7. Value to Price. The value to price ratio here is outstanding! Not too expensive, and not a cheap product - perfect, in my book. I would definitely buy this again for myself or to give as a gift to someone who likes fresh ground pepper, and give it two thumbs up to anyone wondering if it's any good. By the way, to the reviewers who've said the door pops open and peppercorns spill out everywhere, I can't imagine how that happens to you. When it's sitting all by itself not being used, it can't pop open on it's own. There are no springs involved and unless you've got a magic kitchen where drawers fly open on their own and the silverware jumps out all by itself, it's just not going to happen. And when using it, your hand covers the window so that it can't open. So, yeah... I don't get how that could be happening, but it's gotta be "user error". In other words, "you're doing it wrong."

Wow, such a game changer! Way easier to wind then the conventional straight grinders. Much easier grind quickly in circles versus twisting my wrist to grind. It would be perfect but sometimes when I'm holding it gripping the body my fingers are positioned to where it opens the pepper corn window or door. Easily re-adjusted my fingers and shut it, but I wish the door mechanism stayed shut or was tighter. However grinding, with everyday use, 5 stars all the way!!!

I bought one of these in 2013 and, after it went walkabout from my house after a particularly raucous dinner party in 2018, I bought a theoretically higher-end, nicer OXO pepper grinder. The nicer one wasn't as good as this model, and OXO, love them, kindly send me a new model of the white pepper grinder. That pepper grinder survived nearly daily use for 8.5 years until the metal pieces literally wore out and broke this week. I am delighted to be buying another one today, because it's so good at what it does and it works until it literally dies of metal fatigue after damn near a decade. A+ will continue buying one of these every 7-10 years as needed.

I was very hesitant to buy this when I read through the reviews, which I found hard to believe because Oxo is usually such a great and reliable brand. But I have needed a good, working pepper mill for some time now, and the other extremely expensive grinders that Oxo sells are just not high-volume enough to suit me. My roommates have a set of the taller Oxo grinders that cost $50 a set and the output on those is very low, and frankly, at $25 a pop, theyre very overpriced. Theyre nice and sturdy, but disappointing. When I'm cooking, I dont have the time to fiddle around and crank a grinder 50 times for a grain of spice. I want to be able to get my teaspoon of pepper in just a few goes and move on. This is the grinder that does that. I'm so glad I took the chance. I figured for $12, it's not much of a risk. I am happy to report that if you have one of these grinders with a bad compartment window, exchange it. The unit I received is extremely well built and seems quite durable. The crank is smooth and easy to turn, and if my hands are giving me a hard time I hold it closer to the base of the crank and it's much easier. Because of the other reviews, I only filled the chamber about a third of the way with peppercorns and then placed a rubberband around it to prevent it from accidentally popping open during operation. Before filling it at all, I examined it closely and opened/shut the chamber door, tried to wiggle it a bit to see if it came loose, and pressed pretty firmly inward to see if it would pop in or off or whatever. It remained very secure, which was surprising, because the little nubs that fit in the grooves at the bottom of the slot are not very deep. Then I tested it out, deliberately handling it more roughly than I normally would to see how it held up. This thing is a little powerhouse. It doesnt stall, get stuck, or give me any kind of a hassle. It grinds a ton of pepper with just three or four cranks, and the grinding is quiet, clean, and smooth. This is a well-made pepper mill, and I'm going to buy another one, maybe two, for salt and maybe other herbs/spices. It's durable plastic, but it's still plastic, so I dont expect it to last forever, especially under very heavy usage. But at $12 or so it's worth every penny, and if it lasts five years it's one of the best deals ever. Even if it lasts only two years, it's still a good deal. Buy it, you won't be sorry. If you get a bad unit, just exchange it. Argue with the Amazon people; theyre usually good about waiving things like return fees if you get on the phone and discuss it with them.

Okay, this is a nice mill. It grinds well and is easy to use. easy to load. ONE ISSUE: if you are grinding corns and trying to hold the mill tightly so that it won't slip, you are in effect, pressing on the "door" where you load the peppercorns. It's fine shaped instead of cylindrical and you have to really hold on to it when you start grinding. after a little use I pressed the door too hard apparently, and dislodged it. I was able to put it back and the mill still functions fine, but it's not like it was and is loose feeling. Now when I use it I have to place and position it in my hand so that the pressure on that little door is as little as possible. I foresee the pressure of my hand will at some time break the plastic hinge and make it pretty much unusable. I don't have large hands, but the mill is not that big around so there really is no way to hold it and use it without touching that hatch in some way. It's basically an issue with design. If it was a cylinder, and not come shaped, or a little taller, I don't think this would Be been an issue. Ever since I did this, the mill seems less solid when I'm holding it and just grabbing it and using it is not really possible. It still works well, but it feels wobbly in my hand. Since this was not what I would call a cheap mill, and IT IS NOT cheaply made, (although it was inexpensive) I am disappointed that I had trouble with it so soon after purchase. I think I had had it less than a month before I pushed the door in. To be fair, I use more pepper than most people.

Overall it's a very good pepper/salt grinder. I've worn one out, and got a look at the internals as a result. The burr is ceramic, so it won't ever rust under any conditions, the shaft is stainless, and the body is of course plastic. After a couple of years of very frequent use the plastic and stainless interface will eventually wear out. That's the nature of the beast. During those years you get a pepper grinder that's easy to fill, easy to adjust, and easy to use. This model in particular is great for older folks who might be having grip strength issues; the crank is easy to grip and makes using it simple. You also don't have to fiddle around to fill it. Simply open the side door and dump the pepper in. A funnel helps, but it's not required. Only 3 stars because I did manage to break it while using it correctly. That said I bought another one because it's worth it.

I love pepper. In high school the kids called me "Pepper Boy". I use it on everything from fries to melons to mac & cheese to all manner of soups and casseroles. If I could only buy one seasoning I would have a hard time choosing between salt and pepper. I have always hated every pepper dispenser I have ever had in my 47 years. Pre-ground pepper is always too fine. Self-Ground Pepper lets you choose the coarseness of the grind for each dish, but they are always so slow. By the time you crank out enough pepper over the pot or pan on the stove, they accumulate steam and get clogged up. Plus the wrists get tired of twisting a normal grinder back and forth FOREVER! Ever tried doing that over an 800 degree grill for a steak or burger or veggies? I have lost plenty of arm hair that way. I have tried some grinders with a normal little crank on them and they are also uncomfortable to use because the crank is too small. Motorized units are prone to breaking and only go at one or two speeds. This unit solves all of those problems. I can adjust the coarseness and the speed almost infinitely and the huge crank and handle make it super easy to hold and use at any speed. I was initially worried about the small hopper thinking it was going to be running out of peppercorns all the time with all this speed and power, but a month has passed and even I have not used half of what it holds from the first fill up yet. I love that I can easily give it a slow quarter turn to season an individual serving or crank that thing as fast as I can for as long as I want to season a whole 10qt pot of soup in just a few seconds and still be very controlled and comfortable doing it. I love this thing.

Estuve buscandolo por mucho tiempo, ya que lo tengo puedo decir que valio la espera, esta super practico, se rellena facilmente, muele muy bien la pimienta, muy fina o mas granulada como la prefieras, es de buenos materiales, y por el uso constante que le damos, la verdad es de calidad. El envio sin problema, viene muy bien empaquetado.

Bought this a few years ago for black pepper. Still work well. So got another one for white pepper

VERY VERY Pricey, considering it is a manual grinder. But is does what it says. ALL pepper grinders can grind pepper, even the dirt cheap ones. But even though most of them have fineness control, they fail to make the grinds uniform and the result is coarse grinding. The OXO grinds uniformly. And its coarseness-fineness control really works to your desire. That is what makes it different. If you are not very fussy, any grinder will do. If you are, give OXO a try. Mine shipped directly from NewYork.

Adjustable grind and it works so well. A few twists and all the pepper you could want. Seriously thinking of getting one for salt as well. Very easy to use if your grip isn’t very strong, would be ideal for seniors. Only fault is it isn’t air tight, so oxygen is going to reduce taste quickly.
