The Secret Years: Flight Testing At Boscombe Down 1939-1945

Thought you knew everything about the RAF? Think again!
A truly fascinating book with lots of previously unseen archive images from Boscombe down. A must for historians and model makers alike, as it proves to be an excellent reference book. It brillianlty shows some pioneering designs in the early stages before the production line, and those that seemed like a good idea but ultimately didn't work!

Excellent review of testing aircraft 1939/1945. The first Putnam publication Martlesham was a hard act to follow, and this volume fulfilled my expectations.

A flawed gem.
This book is indispensible as a photographic record of aircraft that passed through the wartime A+AEE.HOWEVER, the author's text and photographic captions have many errors, which detract hugely from what should have been the definitive work on this fascinating subject. As A+AEE's task was entirely technical, it seems not unreasonable to expect a book on the subject to be technically beyond question. It isn't. The more I read, the more suspicious I became! As such it is a true flawed gem.Pictorially worth every penny, just don't treat all the author's text and captions as gospel!
