The mirror is easily removed. We actually drilled the hole deeper to hold the mirror more stably, if that helps. **Q: Would it be possible to hang shirts from hangers on the metal bar?** A: Hi wcs55. You can hang shirts on the metal bar, but they drag on the floor a bit. It's not high enough for the average man's office shirt to hang without the bottom being on the floor. Hope this helps. By contrast, the hanger option at the top accomodates shirts without a hanger. **Q: Is it heavy enough to not tip over if placed on a thick carpet?** A: Yes. We have one on in our Master Bedroom and the room has fairly thick carpet. I have had no problems with it standing by itself. I have even put heavy books on top (not really recommended, I am sure!) and it has stayed upright with no sign of tipping (over).
