$25 for a pair of socks? Surely you jest!
$25 for a pair of socks? Surely you jest!Turns out, that's a bargain... and don't call me Shirley. Allow me to expound. I'm a wildland firefighter with my foot in a tall leather boot 16-20hrs a day. I'm a size 10 boot and the Large size sock fit perfect. I always wear Merino wool, usually packages of 4 for $24 or so. But I will say, that these socks, hold up the best, feel taller and way softer. It's like wrapping your foot in a freakin' summer cloud made of your mother's hugs. I have every intention of buying another pair or two at least once a year until I'm overrun with these precious things... like woolen zombie virus outbreak in my sock drawer. I wear them year round with any footwear, dress shoes or sneakers, you bet. If anyone comments, I just dead stare them out and ask, "And where were you on 9/11? (for the record, I was a toddler but they assume me not to be someone to be trifled with and they move along)WARNING: If wear these socks and expect the following side effects:-Increased Confidence-Adding 2" + to your height-Benching more weight-All male offspring-Chiseled Jawline-Short Hard-Rock intros to play any time you enter a room-And best of all, every time you put them on, somewhere in the world, a pair of Crocs melt.So what are you waiting for, take out a second mortgage on your home, and add these priceless beauties to your wardrobe.

300lb hiker tested over 100's of miles = Better than Smart Wool Socks
Wore through my Smart Wool Socks and needed some new socks while thru hiking the Appalachian trail. Compare socks used for hundreds of miles of wear in boots by a 280+ pound man with 30+ pounds of gear on his back and you have a durability test that shows Darn Tough at the top of the list.Comfort and durability are amazing.Pro Tip - Wear socks inside out and always put the right sock on the right foot and left on left from day one.Wearing socks inside out force any seams or bumps to rub on the boot more than your foot.Using the same sock on the same foot prevents the section by your smaller toes from getting stretched out as far as the big toe. When you swap socks from right to left over the course of its life you will stretch out the whole toe section and create potential for extra fabric to bunch or wrinkle in your boot.

Best Socks in the World - Made in Vermont
This is my 1st pair of Darn Tough Boot Socks. I already have two pair of the Crew Socks. They are not cheap $$, but you get what you pay for. The crew socks are great for my light hiking boots and approach shoes. The boot socks are a perfect fit for my 10" steel toed work boots. Padded in all the right places. What makes these socks a real winner though is the blend of materials they are made from. I can wear the socks in leather work boots and my feet stay dry at 90 Deg. temps. and warm at 10 Deg. temps all day. Neat color combinations too."Made in Vermont" on the tag has always been a symbol of quality to me as a Native Vermonter. Lately, it's been a bit over-used though and some products are just... meh? Darn Tough socks however are the kind of quality product that Vermonters can be proud of and I hope you guys and gals keep making them here for a long time. They are kind of like the Vermont equivalent of LL Bean's Maine Hiking Boot. Recommended!JimmyUpdate: Having used these socks for an extended period of time I am leaning strongly toward the boot socks vs. the crew for any boot 8" or taller. Having several inches of sock above the boot top helps you to keep them cinched up properly. The crew sock and an 8" boot (work boot, hiking boot) will leave you having to make more adjustments during the course of the day, whereas, the boot top size sock keeps them from diving down into the boot and everything seems to stay in-place.Great socks, I hardly wear my Thorlos anymore.

Rarely does a product work this well.
Darn Tough or somebody seems to have quite an interest in how they fit so I will start there. I bought X-Large and they feel a tad snug. I have average width size 13 Mens feet with a high arch. The interesting thing about these socks is that when a sock feels snug it means they are going to be cold as they will not trap any air if the sock is stretched or squeezed thin- but not these socks. Not at all, I need allot of performance from my fishing socks as I wade in cold rivers and and slog through PNW winters for hours on end in pursuit of Steelhead Salmon Trout and peace and quiet. I've tried all sorts of socks, pairs of socks, cheap wool socks, expensive wool socks, athletic socks, hiking socks, with the best up intill now being Smartwool hiking socks, but these are the best BY FAR. My feet simply do not get cold in these. It is pretty amazing. I'll theorize that the blend of fibers is such that they have sufficient structure to trap air no matter what- and maybe that is why they feel a tad snug..?.. In any case, my dogs stay warm, yet they can breath so they stay dry, and at the end of a long day fishing I just leave them on. That is a first! really a great product. 6 stars! BTW I've washed them 6-8 times and so far so good. If they last a season (20-25 days or so) I'll would be thrilled to buy another pai and I might not need to.

I wouldn't call these hiking socks.
I bought a pair of these to try based on the recommendation of a few people who hunt. These seem to be really quality made socks, and seem to have great support, but hiking socks they are not. The pair I got did not have a flat seam across the toe box. Just putting them on to check the fit I could feel the corner seam on the edge rubbing against my little and big toes. I've had issues in the past with getting hot spots there which went away once I got flat seam socks. These may be great casual wear or general duty work socks, but I could never trust them in the back country. Also, they are a bit rough compared to other brands of merino wool hiking socks I have had. That might not be bad for some, but anything that can rub can ruin a good hike.At nearly half the price, my big box lifetime wool socks are more comfortable and use a higher percentage of wool. While I don't recommend those for hiking, I'd feel more confident wearing those than these Darn Tough hikers on a long trek.Overall, I just think their are better socks out there for nearly the same price as these.

SUBLIME COMFORT
My first biggest bugbear when it comes to socks are ridged seams that sit over your toes which are uncomfortable and cause blisters. Secondly, it's the socks that cling to your feet and are wet with sweat when you take your boots or shoes off.I'm on my feet all day at work, I can cover miles and I also like to go hiking so a sock that can put up with that kind of use is number one on my Christmas list. I took a chance with Darn Tough though initially I was put off by what I considered was the high purchase cost. How much better could they be to the Lorpen midweight socks I was using. The Lorpen socks are fully synthetic and while they are comfortable they still got quite damp. They also failed after a month of heavy use as my toe burrowed right through. This was disappointing but they are priced less than these Darn Tough socks. They also tended to start smelling sweaty very quickly and hardened with a couple of days of hiking around the Lake District. The difference these socks make is amazing. First off, I wear leather/leather lined hiking boots and steer clear of synthetics and Gortex. They allow my feet to breath and are still waterproof when treated with wax. These socks have made a huge difference. They fit perfectly, they have no seams, they do not have tight spots or leave a mark around the calf and they stay in place. My feet feel so much drier than before, probably down to the high percentage of merino wool. The socks don't smell or harden after a few days use. If you do get a bit of water in your boots they are great at wicking moisture away. They are a relevation to my feet. So much so, I bought another two pairs. They are guaranteed for life, but I'm going to do my best to try and wear them out......

Darn Average
After watching a television programme on the subject of false Amazon reviews, I am now very suspicious of any 5 star review. I made the mistake of buying these socks on the basis of a targeted review.I wore these socks for the first time this morning, and while the socks were comfortable enough during the walk, they are now sitting very loose on my feet as I sit and relax after my walk. I ordered these socks on the same day as I ordered two pairs of Lorpen mid-weight hikers. I know that the Lorpen socks are good, but I was influenced by the great review of these Darn Tough socks, so decided to give them a try as well. These Darn Tough Vermont socks are supposed to be their top of the range. They cost 50% more than the Lorpen socks, and they are simply not good enough to warrant that price difference. Post-walk, there is no form to the socks, and they are now fairly loose on the feet. Save your money, and check out socks by Smartwool, Bridgedale, or my own favourite, Lorpen. I should mention that I work for a well known outdoor gear retailer, so I see plenty of socks. I won’t be suggesting these to our sales team!

Lifetime guarantee
These socks are comfortable. They don’t bunch around the toes, they don’t crease underfoot, they wick sweat away from feet without dehydrating the skin.Yes, they are expensive but they do appear to be worth every penny. By comparison, I used to wear Bridgedales, merino light hikers mostly, but not anymore. Darn tough socks are really so much better. As to the longevity, time will show, but they have a lifetime guarantee printed on the packaging. It states “no strings, no conditions - for life.” So I think we probably do get what we pay for.

Supreme comfort, lifetime guarantee.
These are simply the best socks my feet have had the fortune to be in.The padding on the underside and the complete lack of seams make them the most comfortable socks I've ever found. I do a lot of walking and hiking so good socks are imperative. I've bought merino wool socks before and I thought that they couldn't be bettered, but I was mistaken. The icing on this particular cake? A true lifetime guarantee.Yes, they are relatively expensive 'for socks', but I'm going to spread the cost by purchasing one pair each month until I replace all others in my sock drawer.Go buy a pair, your feet will thank you, for the rest of your life, guaranteed!

Not darn tough!
Not darn tough! Disappointed in quality and don’t seem to be worth the extra cost. Comfortable but didn’t last very long. Socks wore hole in about 6 months.
