Classic adaptation of a great movie
Finally a great adaptation arrives on blu ray. Even managed to get it signed by Julie Dawn Cole aka Veruca Salt herself.

A classic 'golden ticket' film with a great message to adults and childrenn alike
Written by Raoul Dahl, with music by Anthony Newley, and filled with suprises galore, this children's classic is vividly brought to life by the incomparable Gene Wilder who plays Willie Wonka. We meet Charlie and his lazy good-for-nothing family and a whole host of parents who have reared the most obnoxious children imaginable who are invited to a tour of a chocolate factory (filmed in the Tobler factory in Switzerland) and to be given a lifetime supply of chocolate IF they win one of five 'golden tickets' hidden in five 'Wonka' bars. The film is full of twists and turns - as the winners embark on their weird, dark, sinsiter tour - filled with lots of philosophical statements on the way. What happens to the 'winners'? You will just have to watch this fabulous classic to find out.As to the cinematography - its magical. Be warned - you will come away with a different outlook on life as you enter and leave a 'world of sweet imagination'.

Excellent film and good value buy
Great to have a copy of the film as streaming subscriptions still require you to further rent the film to view. No extras but thats what I expected

It's one of the greatest family films of all time and one which never gets old or dated. This film was released 15 years before I was born. There's not many films from the early 70's which children even now a days would sit down, watch and absolutely adore but this is one of them!

Made me hungry
I bought this film on a bit of a whim, I loved it as a child (even though it wasn't actually aimed at children) and have occasionally caught parts of it on TV. I was intrigued to see the whole movie again and to see how it looked in all its HD glory. I have to say I wasn't disappointed! The quality of the transfer is really very good, especially since the original started life almost 40 years ago! The picture is detailed and the colours so bright I was almost reaching for the remote to calm them! The main chocolate room though...phew...made me hungry looking at it!To cap it off, the sound was spot-on, detailed and engaging, revitalising the old songs. I know I've spoken a lot about the presentation, but most know the film itself and may be more interested to decide if they ahould spend the extra 5 or 6 pounds on the blu-ray... YES do, buy it!

The original and best
This is the original and by far the best adaption of this film except for the bit with the squirrels in Tim Burton's version which is better and more faithful to the book than the same scene in this film. What makes it better? Well its not the props, some of which look a bit cheap and basic, though some of the opening scenes in the factory are impressive. Probably it's down to better acting, both the adults and the children even Mike Teevee's dad.
