Wildlife Scenes in Acrylic (Paint This with Jerry Yarnell)

I really like this book. It shows a lot of great techniques. My rule of thumb for purchasing a painting book is whether I like the author's paintings since that is what will be taught. In this case, I really like the author's style. The author covers a lot of methods and a true beginner would probably do better choosing a simpler book and practice before getting this one.

Jerry Yarnell is a great landscape, and other , artist. I prefer his style over Bob Ross, as to more natural appearing (both are beneficial resources). He has a series of art books out, with somewhat repetitious introductory material so each book can stand on its own (some reviewers didn't like this repetition, but I can understand why, and for the additional, the book is well worth the price, plus you don't need to pull out another book to refresh yourself with the basics). His style is more realistic, and more detailed, than Ross', so a little harder to master. But his books break down the basics. "Wildlife Scenes ..." is primarily devoted to complete wildlife / landscape scenes, i.e., wildlife in its natural habitat - horses, deer, birds, rabbits, etc., after a fairly complete introduction focused on the basics for landscape forms, mountains, grasses, seas, clouds, rocks, etc.. Though focused on acrylics, the techniques are very similar for oils (I've used his techniques for both with great results). I recommend this, and all his books on art techniques, of which I have a few.

I am a beginner painter. I learn on my own. I really like this book. I feel that the author goes into detail depth, and gives you examples. I have ordered 4 art books and this one is my favorite.

The scenes are absolutely gorgeous! They are not for beginners, but you can grow into them with practice. If you love to paint nature, this one is a must!

I like watching Jerry on PBS and think he is a great teacher. I enjoy painting and I think Jerry has made me a better painter. I think the book is well written and very helpful.

The painting instruction book was in very good condition and the process ordering was a very easy and pleasant experience.

If you are a beginner artist this is a good book. Otherwise not great book for anyone more advanced.

I like all books of Jerry Yarnell and almost have them all. I am impressed by him as a teacher and an artist.
