We used it so much it cracked. Who knows how many plastic we ingested over the years. The goal was no plastic this time around. This unit is stainless steel all around except a glass lid. Perfect to limit plastics. This is a big unit. You can easily steam enough for a full, large meal. The double decker was something new for me. Keep in mind whatever is on top will drip on the bottom level. See the pictures for some context. You could steam several ears of corn. You can do a search for the correct length of steaming for whatever you’re making. The box contained a box to give some ideas. The unit is sturdy- well worth the money. It’s easy to clean. After a couple of uses, I do see some calcification on the heating portion. Clean that after each use, or you’re going to get buildup. Keep in mind what you’re buying - this isn’t a microwave. You aren’t going to steam veggies in a minute. This takes a minute to heat up the water in the base and get going. But once it gets going, you’ll see steam coming out the hole in the top.
