Lisa Hartman avenges the death of the man she loved in this fiery tale of passion and hate, costarring Bruce Dern, Betty Buckley and Howard Duff and based on the bestselling novel by Jonell Lawson. When her beloved husband dies in a mine explosion, Autumn McAvin (Hartman) vows to destroy the man she holds responsible: coal baron Douglas Osborne (Dern). Sleeping her way to position and power, McAvin blackmails Osborne into a loveless marriage, making herself heir to his mines. When he dies unexpectedly and the police suspect her of murder, McAvin's motives come back to haunt her; she's arrested and tried for the crime. A two-part miniseries originally broadcast in May 1977, Roses Are for the Rich is a powerful portrait of a woman who had everything, but sacrificed it all for love.

Enjoyable
Being from KY I find this movie interesting. This is basically the KY version of the show Dallas, instead of rich oil family it's a rich coal mining family. Full of classic 80s soap acting.

Romance
I came across this miniseries on Hallmark channel years ago. Great story line and acting. The highlight is the chemistry between Joe Penny and Lisa Hartman. Joe Penny plays the wealthy businessman from big city San Francisco. He is so suave handsome and charming. Not to measure the perfect face and body. Lisa Hartman is a poor country girl who is transformed and refined by Joe Penny character Lloyd Murphy.

Poor quality dvd
I got this dvd and missed quite a bit of the story. It would pause itself then go to the end of the chapter. At least an hour through out was missed due to tiling like cable does when it rains.Would never buy from this seller again. Too much trouble to return if I could rate it 0 I would!

I was so glad to see this miniseries available on Amazon
I was so glad to see this miniseries available on Amazon. I watched it when it came on and it was better than I had remembered. I was so glad that both parts were on one DVD and it didn't have to buy them separate. If you are a fan of the 80's miniseries you will love this one. Love the actors, I have watched this several times already.

This harkens back to the wonderful 1980's which featured many mini series as great TV entertainment. It is the story of a poor backwater girl who through her early hard knocks in life decides to make something out of herself. Along the way, she is obsessed with getting even with one particular man whom she holds responsible for a tragedy. Good, absorbing story.
