Epson WorkForce ES-50 Portable Sheet-Fed Document Scanner for PC and Mac

This is a great little scanner. I had an older version of this model for years, recently had to replace it. This version, the newer updated scanner of the same model, is a great improvement. Mechanically much faster and easy to use. The software that comes with it makes scanning many times easier than before. I was happy with the older model, but this one gives crisp clear scans. And it takes a fifth the amount of time to do it. Or less.

I love this scanner! I don’t really get the negative reviews. For the price and the functionality you get, it’s amazing. I’m the type of person who does tons of research before I buy most anything. This includes scanners like this. I was fairly hesitant due to some negative reviews, but I decided to take a chance because I really loved how small, compact and minimalistic this was. I am so happy with my purchase. I have a Mac and setup was a breeze. The minimalist design and the tiny footprint is exactly what I was looking for You don’t have to pay for any additional software for it to function (but I do think you have to download their app, which is free… I don’t know if this is an absolute requirement to use the scanner, but I installed their app because it comes with great feature that make it extremely easy to manage scans and save them. I actually love the features that it provides at no cost so I would recommend downloading it… again, it’s FREE) It just does what it’s supposed to do. One thing to notice is that due to its minimal size if you’re a bit of a perfectionist OCD person like myself you have to be a little more careful about how you load each page to ensure the scans are fed evenly. I assume this is an issue with any scanner but even moreso with something that’s as compact as this and doesn’t have the guides to ensure precise feeding. If you’re looking for a compact scanner, that is efficient, effective and easy to use, I would absolutely recommend this.

I have scanned almost 2000 photos so far and have at least that to go. All things considered, I could not ask for a better scanner. It was inexpensive, portable, plenty fast and just works. Note: outside of scanning the text on the back of pictures and stitching it to the front, I have not done any text scanning. The stitching option is wonderful. The only 3 issues that I have (I tried to explain my work arounds) and I consider them minor are : 1. You sometimes have to reorient dark photos or use a light background slightly larger than the photo or the scanner will crop out the dark parts. This is understandable since the rollers are black. 2. Very thin high gloss photos have to have constant pressure in and out (manual by pushing and pulling the photo) or the rollers will slip on the picture. Thicker, high gloss photos don't do this. 3. The app needs some work as it appears to be outdated. Won't do some of the features on larger files as it will crash and close. Work around save the file as is and do what you need to do thru a Microsoft or whatever photo editing app. This only happens on really large pictures. I did not have any problems with gray scale or color scanning at the max 1200BPI (once I figured out the app).

I bought two of these for a medical practice and as long as the scanner is powered up it works very well. But if the device goes to sleep, the device May no longer be available because it disappears in the hardware list. Once that happens it could be several hours before it reappears. I called Epson support and they told me that the scan to utility does not have the capability of turning the sleep mode off. The WIA driver stops working in Windows 10 and 11 even though it says the WIA service is running. Disabling the WIA driver completely disables the device. The device will not run solely on Twain. Keep that in mind before you buy this device. When it does work it does a fine job of scanning medical IDs and DL's.

I could not be more pleased with this powerful little device! I wanted to organize a mountain of loose recipes and this was nothing short of AMAZING! Straight out of the box, I plugged it into my computer, downloaded the software and started scanning right away. It's fast, easy to use, takes up almost no space on my kitchen desktop and made quick easy work of my organization project. I'm impressed and absolutely recommend this product.

The quality is great but none of my photos that I feed into the scanner come out right. All photos are cropped heavily and it's different every time I rescan it. The photo is flat and not at an angle but half the time the result is heavily cropped with the image being diagonal. I have followed everything support told me which wasn't helpful because it was telling me to use settings that was suppose to fix this issue but those settings wouldn't be there or were already set. I would set the document size to the size of the photo I'm scanning and it would still crop half of it. This is not worth what it's asking and I will never buy this again. This is suppose to make scan documents and photos easy and quick and all it does is crop them in half.

I read the other reviews and decided to give it a shot myself, and I'm very thankful I did, it is very convenient to use and to carry around in laptop bag, it scans pretty fast and works well with scanning sports cards into computer for grading. Have had zero issues with the app or the scanner, it is worth every penny spent, I highly recommend this scanner to anyone who wants a fast great scanner. works with my MacBook and my Dell.

Great compact mobile scanner - it’s meant for letter sized paper, it only has so many rollers to pull, so if you don’t line them up for receipts, etc. it won’t work, but you can do numerous receipts if lined properly (easier sideways IMO). It only feeds one sheet at a time, but it’s quick, and the software was extremely easy to install/use. For being as tiny and quiet as it is, I say it’s a perfect companion if you’re on the move, or limited space. USB connection makes it compatible with about anything, and no batteries or cords to worry about. Highly recommended needless to say

Parece um brinquedinho, mas é uma ferramenta poderosa. Uma dica, a PRIMEIRA vez que usarem, façam a calibragem com o papel enviado "CALIBRATION SHEET" depois é só alegria, Excelente digitalização, excelente custo beneficio. Super Indico.

I loved this product when it arrived, but only used it a few times and it just stopped working, despite trying new connections, multiple computers. Instructions say to attach USB directly to computer - my MAC OS laptop doesn't have a USB port. Big disappointment. Makes me hesitant to order a replacement.

Works as expected. Software is great. Very light and portable.
