What a great book, very educational and instructional.We never stop learning, and I am learning more and more …….

There aren't many books out there on learning to play a timbales, especially if you're a beginner. This book is okay because it contains the charts to show different patterns and rhythms for the timbales, conga, bongos,and drum set. It's not great because the CD that comes with it does not have a break from one track to the next. They should have put a longer pause after each track to indicate that it's over and the next track will be playing. For a beginner, I think it's better to learn from a DVD than a CD in order to see and learn the proper technique.

Yes, this is one of the best Timbale instructional books on the market to date. Victor gives a complete explanation of how the Timbale rhythms are played with the Conga, Bongo and Clave. It's real world teaching, showing where the Timbale patterns fit with the Clave and how the Timbale rhythms sync with the other Afro-Cuban percussion instruments. Congas, Bongo and Clave rhythm patterns are included. Everything is accurate and authentic. This is a must-have for all serious percussionists  The Art of Playing Timbales Vol. 1 .

I have skimmed through this book and it comes across as everything I would need to start studying Timbales seriously. With great references and examples, it doesn't miss out anything. Highly recommended.
