If the plant is too big you"'ll destroy it by trying to force the roots ball through the hole. **Q: What Are The Operating Temperatures?** A: Hi there, I'm not sure I understand your question. You need to follow directions for the plants in order for them to grow. As for the topsy turvy planters themselves, You can leave them up all summer long as long as you are having things grow. Once they are done growing, I take them down and store them in my shed. Do not leave them out empty in windy weather or leave them hanging during winter months. If you keep to this they will last years. I had my first set for 3 seasons before they got crushed by falling tools and got holes in them. We love these! **Q: Can you grow herbs in this?** A: Yes you can grow just about any kind of herb in it. We grow catnip, thyme, and oregano in ours. In my opinion these "New & Improved" ones are junk!. It is impossible to get a small plant through those plastic fingers on the bottom without either injuring the plant or scraping all the dirt off of the roots.
