As a teacher for 26 years, I used the Iditarod race for a teaching unit for many years. It was nice to have an easy to read book for my lower level learners in my high school classes. Other reviewers said that it was inaccurate. I couldn't find any issues with accuracy, but I'm only a fan, not a researcher. My students enjoyed it.

Great history lesson for Alaska
My 3rd graders wanted to read more about the Iditarod after reading Balto. It was a little above their level but they were my best readers, so they did enjoy it.

Good, but...
It was a good book, but I purchased it for my third grade classroom in hopes it would be something I could use in conjunction with our study of the Iditarod. While it provided great information, the tone of the text was geared toward a much younger audience. As my own third grader put it, it felt like reading Dora the Explorer... Everything was pointed out in a very obvious way. They reading level is fine for third grade, but based on how it reads it might go over better with a younger crowd.

Fun for kids
I have not read this book (but will) so the review I am writing is via the grandkids I have given it to. A four year old girl and five year old boy both gave it rave reviews. It was my granddaughter's first chapter book and she is now hooked on longer and more complex books.

SCHOOL DISTRICT
I order Amazon for a public school district. This must be okay to recommend b/c I didn't hear any complaints (and believe me I would have.)

Great Story...
Interesting reading for kids, and adults, too. Adventure, mystery; a lifestyle and tradition of one of USA's most beautiful states.
