There really is no comparison. This stuff actually has the trademark numbing sensation! I'm glad I decided to try the internet for some decent hua jiao. However, that's not to say this is a perfect product. There are still a few unripe peppercorns with seeds lodged inside and many have small stems attached. Nevertheless this is a hude improvement from what I'm used to. BTW, since there are fewer seeds in the package, you are actually getting MORE product per ounce. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the most intense spice I have ever tasted *by M***S on September 16, 2017* These authentic Szechuan Peppercorns are nothing like regular peppercorns. They have an intense citrusey, herbal aroma- like a combination of lemon juice, orange peel, spearmint and sage. The taste was even more intense with tart lemony flavors, hints of savory and thyme and a strange, numbing, buzzing sensation-I'm not really sure how else to describe it. It was more than I was expecting but not altogether unpleasant. These little guys pack quite a punch- I had one and my mouth was "buzzing" for a good ten minutes.
