Most people don't know about this item
My husband has became house bound but I still have to do errands and my own doctor appointments and he has fallen several times where we have had to call the fire dept to get him up off the floor. Now I can feel secure with the knowledge that the Fire Department can get in to help him without causing damage by breaking into my house.

This is a fake "Knox " Box
The town wanted a "Knox box" for the fire dept to gain entry in to my building with a key in side this box. I searched on line for a Knox box and this Eagle made box appears. It seemed to fit what the town required. I was wrong. The box is not a "Knox Box" made only by the Knox company. This Knox box has a special code key that the local fire dept gives to you on a knox order sheet. The sheet is signed by a fire offical. This gives the knox company the code for the key to the box that only the local fire company has. The real Knox box cost about 225.00 and up. dont be fooled by price and buy this fake

For residential driveway gate for fire department access. Does not include the Knox 3501 switch.
This box is for residential driveway type of automatic gates to hold a Knox 3501 switch which allows the fire department to activate the gate. Most of the reviews do not understand what this box is for. If you are looking for a box that allows the fire department or sheriff access to inside of the box to store keys - this is NOT that product and what you really want/need is a real Knox vault box (3200 series or 3400 series) and they are only available from Knox itself - some fire departments require that they order the box, some will use a new E-Authorization process. What his box is for is to hold a Knox model 3501 switch (also known as a KS2 switch). That switch would be hooked up to your gate so the fire department can activate your gate by using a Knox master key on the switch. Thus from wherever you install this box, you have to run low voltage two conductor wire to your gate control box. Most users will mount this box on the same pole that has the wired keypad for access and you can wire it to the same circuit (assuming your keypad is not wireless). The small lock you see in this picture is just a small lock that allows you access to inside of the box to attach the Knox 3501 switch - the fire department will not use that small lock nor will they get inside of this box. You have to obtain the Knox 3501 switch to install into this box - it goes in the big hole that you see and every fire department has different requirements on how you obtain that 3501 switch - it will be similar to obtaining the above vault type of box.The Knox 3501 switch will run you another $76+shipping.Thus to give you a checklist to follow to see if this box is for you:1. Automatic gate for residential property that has some type of keypad so there is not a simple pushbutton to open the gate.2. You can mount this on the entrance side of the gate somewhere where the fire department is able to get to. (Check local fire codes - they may have placement requirements).3. Your local requirements do not require a 3503 switch (dual switch, one for fire, one for sheriff).4. From this box you can run two conductor wire to the gate control box.5. You then need to order a Knox 3501 switch to connect to the 2 conductor wire. This box CANNOT be used with 3502 or 3503 switch.I live in a rural area and a Knox 3501, 3502 or 3503 switch is required by fire code for any automatic gate that prevents access to your residence. I contacted the county fire marshal to get the actual requirements and they approved the Knox 3501 switch purchase and I did all of the installation myself. When it was done, the fire department came out and verified that it was operational. I mounted the box on the same pole that had my wired keypad, it was below the keypad and thus was easily able to wire it up to the same circuit as the wired keypad. If you want to use the Knox 3502 or 3503 switch you would buy either a single (3502) or dual (3503) gang metal weather resistance type of electrical box and paint it red. Again - this box is only able to hold a 3501 switch. As far as quality - it is good quality and all metal construction. I did add some red touchup paint to the bottom hinge to prevent rust. On the back there are four mounting holes that are farther apart than the metal pole I had. If you were attaching this to a 4x4 it would be perfect, but I had a 1-1/2" square metal pole so I had to plug those four holes with rubber stoppers from a local hardware store and drill my own mounting holes. I used stainless small lag bolts for my installation. One final note: This box is not a high security type of box. It can be pried open (it is only 14 gauge steel) (bending and ruining the small latch attached to the key lock in the picture). If you need high security - something that requires power tools and knowledge to break into - you will need to get one of the Knox vault type of boxes which are expensive and cannot be purchased on Amazon. An alternative way to get somewhat better security would be to purchase the padlock version of this product (Eagle 2000) and use a Knox padlock (3770, 3771, 3772) to secure the box closed - this would be much harder to open by force. Inside the box you could have a simple toggle switch for the fire department to use. Again - the best thing to do is contact your county fire department and ask them what are the actual requirements for your use - and then find the products that fit that requirement.

Works OK with Knox Lock Model 3501
This box is a usable alternative to save some money instead of buying a Knox-branded emergency box. I almost didn't buy this product due to the lack of detailed pictures, so I've included some (NOTE: In the pictures, I've installed the Knox 3501 electric gate switch which IS NOT included).Although the model does indeed fit the gate lock, it is missing a couple of necessary features. First, if you're installing this yourself, you will need to own or purchase some metal-capable drill bits. The box does have holes for mounting screws, but it does not include holes for the four small screws on the front to properly secure the panel 3501. It also does not have a pre-cut hole for the signal wire to exit the box. After drilling my own holes, the box functions great and was approved by our Fire Marshall.

Read the reviews before you buy.
Read all the reviews before you buy. We were told we needed a Knox box and this product appeared to fit the bill. It is not a Knox Box. We had our reinspection and the inspector directed us to the Knox brand Knox Boxes that are keyed for your zip code. I don't fault the product, but the product description and placement needs to be much clearer about it's application.
