The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook: The Must-Have Resource for Plant-Based Eaters

Heavily laden with sweet treats so not for me!
Sorry - not a fan and ended up returning. There are so , so many vegan cookbooks out there that are good, great and yes comprehensive so to call yourself the "Ultimate Vegan Cookbook" means some pretty big shoes to fill, and fill this does not. I am pretty sure that the average vegan does not predominately live on sweet foods yet about a third of the book - pages 231 to 408 in a book that has around 420 pages (yes the breakfasts and drinks were largely sweet too) was filled with dessert and sweet treats . These call for sugar, flour, boatloads of coconut oil., syrup, dates....stuff that I try my best to keep away from most of the time.Next pet peeve, is a lot of the books on the market are loaded full of stunning pics that show you how your creation should look and get your mouth watering. This book however features recipe after recipe squeezing in next to each other with a handful of pages at various points in the book where they feature a bunch of pics just jumbled on a page together with a brief line about where to locate the dishes, and the pics are poor quality with weird crops that cut off the dish itself...it looks like something self published and they also look rather dated like you picked up an old magazine in a doctors waiting room that had a recipe of the day! There are a bunch of recipes that call for specific tools such as an air fryer , slow cooker, Instant pot- and it is hit or miss if they include alternate instructions . Or things that have been done to death, I mean really hummus , popcorn, Guacamole ?I would say if you are new to vegan cooking and don't need or want a lot of pics to guide you and have a sweet tooth, by all means get this but for the rest of us, this is a miss !

Great Cook Book!
I think it's so funny that this cookbook has so many bad reviews because I love it. I do think it's a better cookbook for a more experienced cook but there are a few recipes that my husband can make. I generally don't use recipes but I was finding myself making the same things over and over so I really wanted some new ideas. That's why I bought the book. I don't always follow recipes I really just use them for ideas. But I love the creative ingredients and combinations. I've been following the recipes exactly the first time and then make some changes based on my opinions but honestly there isn't a recipe that I haven't changed ever.As for health, there are a lot of healthy recipes in the book, yes it has a hefty dessert section but I have a sweet tooth and has far as unhealthy recipes go they aren't that bad. And again if you know how to cook you should know the substitution to make something healthier. I also love that they have a lot of gluten free and soy free options. I'm allergic to soy, and a lot of other things and was struggling to go from vegetarian to vegan because of that. But this book has so many recipes and ideas. It's really great

Buy something else
This is just BAD. The recipes have hard to find ingredients, they taste bad, they never cook like they say, and they have a section called 30 minutes or less. Which has recipes that take 30 minutes to cook. So that doesn't count mixing or the time to cook the sweet potato to mix into it. This person must have no grasp of time. This whole book is a horrendous joke!

Cookbook review
Some of the recipes are great, some are not. I think this is basically a good book especially for new vegans. Faye

Great quality!
I was worried the book might come wrinkled or beaten up on the edges, which often happens when ordering books online, but the copy I got looks perfect!

Don't waste your money
This cookbook is very disorganized. The sections are divided up in a way that makes no sense. For instance, tacos are in the vague "main dish" category, but also in the "sides and snacks" category. Pictures do not accompany the recipes, but instead, are divided into two sections for some reason. The recipes themselves are not written well. Each recipe has a quote from the person who wrote the recipe, and they are unnecessary and annoying. Here are some examples: "Caramelized onions effing rock." "My favorite tester, aka my mom, managed to purchase some where she lives in Switzerland." (Wow, helpful.) "My sweetie claimed they were better than any chicken nugget he had ever had." "Is there anything better than winter citrus?" (What is winter citrus???) It reminded me of those annoying recipe blogs that want to talk about their family members and lives when you could not care less and just want to get to the recipe. And everything was "the best they'd ever tasted." Sure thing, buddy. The recipes were vague and not detailed enough. This recipe for yet another taco was not helpful: "Slice the lime, avocado, and onion, and chop the cilantro. Heat the tortillas in a cast iron pan or pop in the oven for a few minutes to warm them." So, how many slices of avocado, etc.? What temperature should the oven be on? How many minutes is a few? Three? Five? More? Is there a difference in texture to cook in the oven versus a pan? Also, some of the recipes are just bad. Baked ziti with one cup of carrots and two cups of cauliflower? Why...?This cookbook is a mess, and there are better options out there. I would recommend How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark BIttman.
