READ THIS. Affordable upgrade to Home Lighting. Easy to set the mood of any room. Could be brighter. Get 10 watt over 7 watt
Easy and affordable upgrade to your home's lighting and decor. This review is for the 7 watt version not the 10 watt. This is my first smart LED bulb and like many I was quite impressed but was left wanting more. This bulb is hanging above my desk in my office and is connected via bluetooth to my android device. I read lots of reviews and watched several videos on Smart LED bulbs before pulling the trigger. My review will hopefully streamline and make this buying process easier for you. What do you get?: -A small white package that a typical bulb would come in. It has some of the listing's features and the instructions for finding and downloading the app. - The bulb. About the size of a normal incandescent bulb. This allows it be installed in all normal locations. The bulb's fins are there to transfer heat I believe. Setup: -Setup was pretty straight forward. Screw the bulb in. Install the correct app (there are several led bulb controllers. The instructions tell you which one). Make sure the light switch is on. Open the app. It will search over bluetooth and add the bulb. Close the app. For some reason it insists that you then turn the light switch on and then immediately back on. Reopen the app. Voilà, your new bulb is connected. Using the App: -Here's what's interesting and probably these LED bulbs' worst feature. They all basically have the same crappy app. I'm assuming all these Smart LED bulbs are just different rebranding versions with perhaps some minor differences or improvements. However, they all have similar if not the same app (just with a different name). They all function similarly and look nearly identical. I'm assuming they made it in a way that it only connects with their brand of bulbs. Besides the point. The app offers several features, most of which you probably won't use (Strobe, flicker. Candle might be useful at time). I want an app that I can easily open to turn my light on and off and change the color and brightness quickly. This is possible for the most part, but about 5% of the time there's a hiccup. The app can't find the bulb, doesn't remember the bulb and you have to reinstall it, or just force closing. I will say however, performance has been much better since their latest app update. Additionally, the app itself isn't black as the listing's image shows. I WISH IT WAS. Gosh, especially at night, you don't want a bright white screen when trying to mess with the bulb's settings. -Important: I wish there was a widget or quick way to turn the bulb on/off from the home or lock screen. That would make this 10 times more useful and enjoyable. -Timer: Haven't played with it yet to see how usable it is. - Choose your color: You can easily select the color you wish by sliding a color wheel. You can save 3 custom colors to switch to at any time. Change brightness using the slider. Performance: -Fantastic concept. Really can help change the mood of the room, especially if you had multiple ones. -Brightness: Weak point in my opinion. For me, it's not bright enough, unless you get more I figure. I plan on trying the 10 watt in hopes of a brighter and better experience. I only have one bulb fixture above my desk. I need this bulb to be brighter. Because of this, playing with the dimming feature doesn't seem to make much of a difference until you get really low. -Colors: The colors are neat. Really enjoyable over plain white. Speaking of white. This can't really do plain white. I miss that color at times. It can do a warm yellow, but that's about the closest you'll get. Sometimes you need a bright white. This lacks that unfortunately. -Hissing: I tend to avoid certain colors because of a hissing noise it makes. This varies from color and brightness. Sometimes the slightest change makes the hissing stop. It's pretty annoying though, especially when I have no background noise or music playing. Not a deal breaker though. -Power consumption: Now this alone makes this bulb a worthy upgrade over your non-led bulb. WIFI vs Bluetooth: Don't get Wifi -Now, I have bluetooth. I intentionally avoided wifi, not just for cost. Think about how many devices are connected to your home wifi network. Think about all those times you've had a weak or dropped signal. Think about how frustrated you'd get if your bulbs couldn't all stay connected. Where is your God now? Don't do it. Stick with bluetooth, especially if you plan to get a lot. At least that has less interference and will be more reliable (in most cases). Value: -So you're getting an LED which can easily switch colors as you wish. It's offering you power consumption savings and giving you the value of color choice. The 7 watt lacks in brightness compared to the 60 watts it supposedly replaces. I want to try the 10 watt to see if that's the perfection option for me. It might be for you as well, especially if you just want to try one first. Summary: Overall this is a really cool LED bulb. It instantly helps improve the mood of the room, but not the brightness. For strict mood setters, this is a fantastic and affordable way to do so. If you want mood PLUS brightness, I'd suggest the 10 watt instead. The app is alright overall but has much room for improvement. I have several recommendations for them, yet I'm not sure how likely we'll ever see those changes. Again, all these Smart LED bluetooth bulbs seem to be pretty identical. You're most likely to have a similar experience with them all. Where they differ, however, is their product offerings (other bulbs to allow future upgrades on same group), their customer service, and price. I chose MAGIC LIGHT for all those reasons. They seem to have the widest product offerings, meaning I can easily add more variations of lights in the future. They have great customer reviews and assistance. And lastly, they have one of the lowest prices. -For all of these reasons, I'd recommend choosing the Magic Light bulb sets. Just to have more freedom, get the 10 Watt. I plan on reviewing more smart LED bulbs over time to compare them and see if any other good options exist. If Magic Light feels they can improve my situation or have any insight on how the app can be developed further, I'd be interested to hear from their team. Thanks for reading my input. Hopefully this review helped you out!

Great deal, and extremely entertaining.
Some things to be aware of with these lightbulbs: 1. Your phone or tablet needs to support the Bluetooth 4.0 specification, with allows BTLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) communications. So, for example, my iPhone 6s works, but my iPad 2 does not. 2. (Edit: See revision at bottom of review.) The bulbs themselves are only autonomous insomuch as they recall the last state (in a small non-volatile flash ROM) when powered on - i.e. color and brightness. For all other functions, they require a device connected by Bluetooth. Other smart light bulb systems, such as Philips Hue, use a dedicated controller that acts as an intermediary between your wireless router or direct bluetooth connection, so they can follow schedules and actions without a connected device running a control app. To make a long story short, functions like timers, disco, etc., will not work unless there is a device running the app - either in the foreground or background of your device's OS. If you are out of range from the bulbs - which isn't hard to do when out of line-of-sight and/or further than 30 feet - then they will maintain the last known state. Those caveats aside, I was willing to accept the compromise in autonomy for the lower price, since I only will use them in 1-2 rooms that are right next to each other. Having never used smart color LED bulbs before, upon installing them (which was a pretty straight-forward process - though I am what many would call "tech-savvy"), I immediately declared to my wife that these were the coolest things I had bought in the last 5 years. At the moment, they are in my recording studio, which is thrown together in an unfinished part of my basement. Not that I know anything about punk underground recording studios (since I am, despite my best efforts, pretty much a WASP), but to me, it has more of that kind of a feel now, especially with the more subdued, sharper colors. In fact, I'm liking my unfinished space so much now, that these lightbulbs may have saved us the $30-40K we were thinking of setting aside to finish the basement! Now that is a bargain by any measure. The few minor problems I have with it: 1. I have worked with many Chinese tech brands, and while their "homegrown" products are very solid these days, I still fail to understand this Chinese pride in refusing to hire fluent foreign-language speakers to do their technical writing for app localization. Even with big companies like ASUS (aka "The Great Splendid Computer Corporation"). So, courtesy of this mentality, this app is riddled with incorrect grammar and spelling. But thankfully, the copy is understandable most of the time. (Again, I may have an unfair advantage with this, having worked for a Chinese guy with poor English writing skills.) Hopefully someday they'll realize how off-putting this is to potential customers in Western markets. But since I'm hoi polloi - and the copy still manages to convey meaning adequately - I can overlook it. 2. The color wheel in the app implies a continuous variability in the color palette that doesn't exist in practice. So though this system may look like it is capable of 16- or 24-bit color gradations, it is more like 8-bit (i.e. 256 colors). Since I'm like most guys - any selection of more than 16 colors is too many - this is a minor gripe to me. 3. The disco function only seems marginally responsive to microphone input - changing the sensitivity slider doesn't make much of a difference except at "all up" or "all down." And I would like it if there were more control over the color changes with disco mode. For example, instead of flashing through colors every few seconds, I would like the option to restrict disco mode to one or two colors. Or to have the colors change more slowly, like in the functions tab. Again, though, this is an amazingly cool product that is a great value. I'll be happy to purchase more when I can. Or I'll write copy for the app in exchange for 10 bulbs. :-) ------------------------ UPDATE 12/6/16 I was wrong about one thing, regarding timers. As long as the bulbs have uninterrupted AC power running to them, the timers work without a connection to the phone. Also, a new app has been written which has more comprehensible English. My new set of bulbs are V7, as opposed to V6 on the first set I bought at the time I first wrote my review. V7 supports the sunrise/sunset timer functionality, whereas V6 does not. Be advised that this will not turn the bulbs on an off at sunrise/sunset - something that would be handy for an outdoor setup. They are merely timed dimmers that will increase or decrease light brightness at a starting time you specify, for a duration that you specify. Which makes a lot more sense for indoor lighting.

A great purchase for $35.
For under $30, this is a pretty cool device. Connects via Bluetooth with a smartphone. The app is pretty simple to understand and still offers interesting features. Color Control: You can change its colors and intensities. Pretty simple, but gives a decent amount of light too. Warm Light: It also has a different feature where it can act as a light of about 4,000K bulb which you can dim and brighten. Timer: I love this feature. Put it into a fixture that is always on and use the app to tell it when you want it to turn on/of. Tell it how dim/bright/color/intensity you want it to be. I currently have mine to turn on at 20% brightness, one minute later 50% bright, one minute later 100%, and then an hour later (when I typically leave for work), it turns off. You could also set it as a vacation light so that your lights turn on and off at specific times on specific days. Flashing Lights: You can choose the colors and speed, choose between strobe/flashing/morphing colors, and the speed. Using a grid pattern as a guide, you just choose which "grid" you want, what color you want, and go to the next to make your pattern. Flash to Music: This feature needs work, IMO. You have to use the app's music player, so you're limited there with music selection and such. The lights also have a little delay and the effect isn't always great, but if you just want to add a little extra to the music with some flickering/flashing light, this is an option. Pairing: Something I haven't tried yet, but when you create profiles on your app, you can create groups and select more than one Bluetooth connected MagicLight to the group. They all do the same actions together this way. As should be apparent, the light only works when the source is powered, but also after returning power, I've had to re-send the program back to the light--it doesn't seem to have any RAM storage for programs. Still, it's been a fun purchase for me and has been more useful (with morning wake-up) than I was expecting.

Versatile, fun, and functional bluetooth color-changing light
My dad purchased several of these bluetooth color-changing bulbs about a year ago and he wound up with an extra one that he gave me. Although I already had some Philips Hue lights and was thinking of adding more, they did not change color (they were the "Lux" variety) yet were more expensive than these MagicLights. So, I decided to buy another one of these when Amazon was running a promo. These MagicLights are a lot of fun to experiment with when you first get them, but they wind up being quite functional as well. The brightness is probably equivalent to about a 60W incandescent, so it's plenty bright for conventional use. As an example, I am currently using the one I bought in a desk lamp, so not for accent or pure decoration. I programmed my own sunrise/sunset color scheme using the Android app (there are a few--make sure you get the one named "MagicLight BT," as the seller will remind you via email when you order). This color scheme is particularly nice as it cycles through subtle gradations of orange and yellow in the morning and evening. The transition is very smooth, and there are no splotches of color on the bulb itself (as I've noticed on some cheaper color-changing bulbs). The bluetooth connection to the bulb works almost flawlessly. When you open the app and set colors or programs, the bulb recognizes them instantly and switches to them. Occasionally I've had problems connecting to the bulbs, but that may well be an issue with the bluetooth on my phone (Google Nexus 6P). Although these bulbs can be controlled by multiple devices, they CANNOT be controlled by different devices simultaneously. To cede control, you need to completely quit the app (and maybe turn off bluetooth) before someone else can take control. Before you receive the light, I recommend checking out the app for Android or iOS. It has a dizzying array of features including not just a nearly infinite selection of colors (it's a giant wheel you can move the cursor around in). You can also set up custom scenes, set your favorite colors, dim the brightness from 1-100%, and even have the light sync to music you play through your mobile device. There is a good array of programs already present that allow you to do things such as gradually cycle through primary colors or strobe through particular combinations (red-green, red-blue, etc.) You can also take a picture, or simply turn on the camera, and have the light grab a color from it (like the paintdropper tool in Photoshop). Like I said--fun to play with, but functional too. This light is a real conversation starter for parties, if you want to use it for that. If these lights were half the price, I would consider replacing more lights in my house with them. But at $30 a pop, I'm good with two for now. But if you're looking for a good bluetooth color-changing bulb on Amazon and are overwhelmed by the number of choices, you can't go wrong with this one. It's been around for a while and it's a competent choice. Be aware that there are different hardware versions--my older light says "v6" in the app and the new one says "v7." I haven't found documentation about the differences, but I have noticed that the newer one runs through programs at about half the speed of the old one. I haven't noticed anything else different. UPDATE: I emailed the seller about the hardware differences and was informed that v7, in addition to reducing the speed of the "gradual" cycle, also supports sunrise and sunset modes.

Would buy again
'Actual' rating 4.5, but no half-stars on Amazon. (Rounded up because it's a unique item with little competition, and that by and large, does exactly what it says.) Pros- Easy set-up- 'plug and play'. Plug it in, load the app, pair, and go. Wide variety of options and 'programmables' (pre-set colors, etc.) Works as described in literature Cons- -Slightly- buggy (emphasis on 'slightly'. See below) App could be slightly more configurable Could be slightly brighter Not quite as wide a variety of colors as the app would indicate So basically this is a neat little product that I really like. Setup was very easy- plugged it in, loaded the app, it paired easily and off I went. There weren't many similar products, and this one had an 'off-brand' 'no-name-made-in-china' look to it, so it was very nice to see that really, it just works, and does what it says it's going to do. I would/will definitely buy again. (Longevity, how long it will last, is the only open question for me, and that'll take time to see.) I mention 'slightly' a couple times, above. Slightly buggy means some little quirks- like, once, when I set it up and got it on a color I liked, then put my device down for a 10 minutes or so, later when I went to change the color, I couldn't just 'do it', the color didn't change. I had to go over to 'devices' and tap the light bulb icon again, then go and change the color. Then it changed. No not a big deal, a really minor little inconvenience. (Especially compared to all the problems I have with other bluetooth devices- pairing, controlling, etc. Compared to those, this was a breeze.) The colors are not quite as variable as the app. To be sure, there are many colors and shades. Hundreds maybe? A couple dozen, to be sure. More than enough for my needs. It's probably the tech/led bulbs inside. Like printing a photo from a one-cartridge color ink, as opposed to from 3-cartridge ink. That kinda thing. Same with the speed of transitions (fade, etc.) and other settings. I wouldn't mind it brighter. It will light a small room as an accent light, definitely. My main suggestion would be to make the app even more configurable. You can pre-set colors, but not color and brightness or warmth, for example. Other options worked well- using the mic to strobe, for example, though personally I won't use those much. I didn't check the play music function. The feature of using your phone to scan a color and mimic that on the bulb was very cool. That's a about it- As I mentioned the only question is longevity, but that'll take time to test, but if it lasts a year or so with light use, I'll be happy, even if that's not as long as a regular led light bulb.

False Advertising - Will Be Returning
I was excited to try to this bulb out based on the sheer number and positivity of reviews, but was ultimately disappointed. My girlfriend has the Soft White and Multicolor, 60w Equivalent version and uses it as a wake up light in the morning. For her purposes as an ambient light, it works just fine. I purchased the same model in hopes of replacing a Great Value LED, 60w equivalent bulb to use as a desk/task light. While the physical box for the 60w version advertises a brightness of 806 lumens, this is misleading. In comparison with the Great Value bulb, this is noticeably dimmer--definitely not even close to 800 lumens. Online, the luminous flux is advertised as 550, which is more accurate. That being said, I bought this product based solely off of the label on the physical box, which is incorrect and false advertising (see photo of the box for reference). Unfortunately, this 60w version is much too dim to serve as a general task light. As far as the MagicLight app, the connection range on the bluetooth was poor using my Moto G5 Plus. If I moved my phone more than a foot away from the physical bulb, the signal would disconnect. As other reviews have mentioned, the colors displayed in the app do not correspond well with those emitted by the bulb. While the warm white setting was accurate, the cool white setting displays a noticeably pink/purple hue, and not a true bright white/daylight. In summary, this will work fine if you are planning to use it as an ambient or party light. I would not recommend it for office work, and will be returning.

Fantastic purchase
I purchased this bulb specifically for the wake up feature - it will fade on until it's at full brightness, to help bring you out of sleep gently. It works exactly as intended. I have it scheduled to turn on at 15% at 9:30pm as a night light; fade to 100% from 5:30-6:00am; then turn off at 7:00am. As long as no one accidentally flips the switch on my lamp (it resets when it loses power), it works perfectly. The bulb is not going to light up a whole room on it's own... but then, there's a reason that overhead fixtures usually have 2 or 3 sockets. It's perfectly fine for the morning in the bedroom when I don't want full light, and I can turn on the overhead light when I do. I wouldn't suggest using this in a ceiling fixture for everyday use if you're wanting to schedule programming - the fixture has to be left on, so you'll find yourself having to use your phone every time you walk in the room. The color adjustments and party features are pretty cool too. The app works amazingly well, the bulb is responsive to it, and it's all very user friendly. I'd suggest downloading the app to play with it if you're deciding on whether to purchase. Being Bluetooth makes it sync flawlessly... I wonder if the Wi-Fi bulbs would have to be re-paired with the network every time you accidentally turn off the fixture. The only real flaw in this bulb is that it's not fully true to color It's heavy on the pink and purple hues, and doesn't do green at all even when the green is maxed (it emits yellow). I'm going to email the company - maybe the green channel is out? - but this is the only complaint I have. [UPDATE: after a few days' use, I checked the colors again, and the green channel works perfectly fine. Not sure what happened originally.] [UPDATE 11/28/16] User note: when using the timing features, make sure the different commands line up properly throughout the week. I had mine set to fade on at 5:30 every weekday morning and turn off at 7, but had the "fade on" command for M-F and the "turn off" command for "every day" (the default setting). This meant on weekends the bulb would emit a bright flash at 7 am, turning on to perform the turn off command. It was very disconcerting to wake up like that until we figured out what we'd done! Perhaps this is something to improve in the software?

Good lights, with reservations!!
Great lights. The android app is very basic. The lights aren't as bright as a 60 watt bulb but the colors are pretty cool! I've never had any kind of lights like these before so I can't compare them to anything. I prefer my lights bright and crisp when I actively working on a project. These lights don't provide that, even left on to "warm up" and at maximum brightness they aren't nearly as bright as an incandescent bulb. For mood lighting or just talking or watching tv they're fine. So that is what my first impressions are. After having them for a week, I've noticed some unanticipated "problems". While the lights works great when they are on, there are 2 issues that I hadn't anticipated and you probably wouldn't think about until after you've had them and these crop up. When you install these lights into a lamp, the lamp switch is always turned to the "on" position". So you need the device to control the light. 1. Once they are "associated" with the device you originally connect them to, that is the only way to easily control the lights. If you put them into a lamp and connect them to your ipod/android/tablet, you have to have that device to turn them on/off. You can't just walk into the room and turn on the lamp and get light, you HAVE to have the device that you have associated with that light. Let me clarify, you set up the lights with your kids ipod. It works great!! Colors, music, programmed lighting patterns, and dimming all work great! When the lights are turned off with the device, you can't turn the lights back on until you, 1. Find the original device, or 2.Associate the lights to a new device. This has presented problems when you can't find the device and you are in the dark. 2. We have had a few severe storms recently and power has gone out. When power came back on, all of these lights "activated" and came on. In the spare bedroom, where kids stayed a week ago, they set the lights up for strobing. The power went off and immediately came back on and our nightstand light lit up full, the spare bedroom light was strobing and all these lights were doing what they were set to do. All at 3:32am. Needless to say we had to run around the house turning off all the outlets. While these 2 issues don't necessarily mean these lights are bad, I think you should be aware that this is what happens before you buy them. I haven't found a way to make them work from the lamp switch without the "associated device" so it's just like having one more lost remote, only this time you have to find it in the dark. If there is anyone out there who has found a way around these little issues, I'm all ears! Please share, and I'll update my review.
