Olde Thompson 6 Caffe Wood Pepper Mill and Salt Shaker Set

My trusty Olde Thompson carbon steel pepper grinder I had from my first years of married life finally gave out and I wanted to try out a few others I was told were of better quality. So I went online and bought a Peugeot Paris USelect, a Cole and Mason, and this Olde Thompson grinder set. Out of the three, I keep going back to the Olde Thompson. It also happened to the the most inexpensive of the three. So you can go with the hype and buy a more expensive grinder, but from my experience, the most effective and reliable grinder happened to be the least expensive. It grinds with no issues, no halts or catches, and has a smooth mechanism. I like the acrylic window strip so I can see when the pepper is getting low and refill it. The walnut finish is very pretty. I have a modern style kitchen so the acrylic design fits in nicely too.One last thing to note - the salt shaker wasn't very good. Its very hard to shake salt out of it. I use fine baked sea salt and it doesn't sprinkle out worth a darn. But I did just buy the set because I wanted a 7.5 inch grinder, the perfect height for easy handling.

This set looks nice, and the pepper grinder has worked well so far. It's nice to see the contents. I was looking for a set that just had the salt shaker instead of a grinder, and this set is exactly what I needed.

Very nice looking salt shaker and pepper grinder. The pepper grinder works smoothly. I bought a wooden tray that holds both of them well and keeps the pepper mess out of the counter.

They came with the clear acrylic all scratched and scuffed up. They were shipped filled with salt and pepper and don't know if that was what got in the box that scuffed them during shipping or something else. But the pepper is easy to twist and the salt comes out perfectly. I purposefully bought this set because I wanted a pepper grinder and a salt shaker not a salt grinder like most places sell (we need iodine people). I had bought an Olde Thompson set about 20 years ago at Costco that was very similar to this but taller with more clear showing. We loved them and the pepper grinder broke and started leaking salt out the bottom, 20 years is a pretty good run. The wood was nicer and prettier with the older set but the wood is not too bad with this new set. I like the height of these. Just very very sad that they came scuffed up. I could not return them because we were having an event and needed to use them right away. Hope Olde Thompson sees this review and maybe doesn't ship any more with salt inside to keep them from getting ruined. The wood looked scuffed as seen in the first photo but was able to wipe it off and its not too noticeable.

These are just what I was looking for. They are very high quality and look lovely on the dining room table. I really like the fact that the salt and pepper are visible through the acrylic. Hey, they even came loaded with salt and pepper. It was difficult to find a salt shaker and pepper mill set--everything seems to have swung to salt and pepper grinders. Most of those have shakers that look virtually alike, meaning that your guests will likely always be confused. Who wants to have to tell guests, "No, that's the salt," "No, that's the pepper." I wanted a salt shaker and a pepper mill and this fit the bill perfectly.

These may not be glamorous high style, but they are super well made. The grinding mechanism in the pepper mill is screwed securely into the bottom of the piece and the stopper in the bottom of the salt shaker is hard plastic that threads into place rather than a soft plastic plug that will shrink and fall out. Awesome quality! I bought them to replace a gorgeous marble set from Crate and Barrel that fell apart in six months. Now it’s function over form forever.

The pepper mill barely works. I have tried adjusting it but you have to turn it 50 times and the pepper comes out as an extremely fine powder. We just don't use it. The salt that came in the salt shaker was like a fine kosher salt and didn't come out very well so I dumped it and put regular salt in. Regular salt flies out so you have to watch it. Overall I would have bought something else if I knew how these would perform. I'm going to go ahead and keep the salt shaker as it mostly matches my older larger pepper mill. It really was kind of difficult to find any lone salt shake that matched so I guess I got what I wanted.

llego en buenas condiciones, ambos productos llegaron con un poco de sal y pimienta para que puedas usarlos, excelente producto para la cocina.

El diseño es muy elegante, cuenta con un regulador para moler la pimienta.
