Hollywood Makeup Lab: Industry Secrets and Techniques

This purchase is definitely a must if you're into the SFX Makeup Industry. It has great secrets and techniques, not to mention the quality of the pictures and paper is amazing. Definitely worth the price.

Wow. What a great read. There is so much in this book. Great reference guide.

I am a professional film and TV SPFX Artist and I have also been on Face Off. I have been working in the industry for 17 years and have been teaching for 6. While looking for a new classroom book to offer students I came across this book. While the photos are great, the step by steps are vague and miss a lot of important detail. It would show a mold, but not tell how or what the mold was made of. Or applying an appliance with only high lights, no in depth description. Like showing an apple being peeled, and the direction says peel the apple and not tell what tool is used or why you peel the apple, then skipping to a photo of eating the apple. Another example would be, Imagine showing pictures of a pro applying an appliance in a magazine. There's no depth in the article. Also, no explanation of where to get a lot of the products, why there used, risks or benefits. For an already established Fx artist, this gives great ideas on creative approaches to common makeups, but only from looking at the photos. It reminds me of a phenomenal signed copy of a Japanese fx book I received from a famous fellow Fx artist in Japan. Loaded with amazing step by step makeups, but written in Japanese. I cant read Japanese, so I go off the pictures because I already know what is used, where to get it and why. This is how I can best describe this book. Great pictures, but the written step by step's are lacking. I would not suggest this book for a beginner, but a good photo reference manual for ideas to an already knowledgeable FX artist.

Very cool book despite the cheesy cover, and one of the only ones I found on Amazon that actually has some sort of step-by-step instructions. The daughter is VERY excited to started on special effects make up!

I actually did not get a chance to read the book, as it was a Christmas present for one of my granddaughters. My wife looked through the book, and my granddaughter absolutely loved it and said she will never put it down. It arrived quickly and was in great condition, which was what I expected since it was a new book.

Lots of great make up tips and how-to's. Great photos.

Can't get enough of this genre to read! Love it!

Some really good information mixed with some bad photo descriptions. For example, alginate is called "plaster" and "dental plaster" in the lifecasting section. This mix up could cost you a trip to the emergency room. Some info is very specific and some very vague.

Bought this as a Christmas present for an 18 year old doing specialist make up at College and he loves it.

Didático, sem ser técnico demais. Excelente fonte de referências. Com ótimos passo a passos, bem claros e auto explicativos .

J'attendais beaucoup de ce livre comme je suis moi même maquilleuse professionnelle mais j'ai été déçue. Les explications ne sont pas claires et il manque des étapes pour pouvoir les reproduire. Les parties " do it your self" sont hyper basiques, pas du tout d'un niveau pro. Ce livre s'adresse à des amateurs qui ont envie de découvrir les coulisses des Fx mais les pro n'en tireront rien d'intéressant
