I only have fedoras. **Q: Does this work on Buffalo felt** A: These hat sponge brushing product are coarse for thoroughly brushing fur felt hats and other products from fur felt. It would depend on the thickness of the buffalo fur with regard to effectiveness. I don't think the brushing qualities would work on the thick curly hair of buffalo, but on the finer hair, it might be effective. **Q: Is this the right sponge for black?** A: It should be fine on a black hat according to the description.
