Secrets To Drawing Realistic Children

This book is remarkable. I am a self-taught artist and Carrie has been the best guide I could ever imagine without actually being here and holding my hand. Her books are wonderful for beginners without being too simplistic. She has great advice and examples and covers it all without going into boring stuff like the history of the pencil. She gets right down to it and you can too. I've shocked myself in going from stick figures to actual commissions in under a year. I mostly draw for pleasure, and don't actually want many commissions, but I'm far better at it than I ever imagined. Carrie teaches you that drawing CAN be learned and easily. Thank you Carrie for giving me the tools to fulfill a life long dream. I'd give you 10 stars if I could.

I joined an Artist Society Club and after viewing children drawings from the long time award winning artists there. I wondered how long it would take me to get to that point? I thought never. I was wrong. I searched for books on drawing children realistically and Wow. I ran across this book and bought it. It was so on point and easy enough for me to follow. I liked the fact that the authors show the actual pictures, then the sketch, and finally the finished project. I also liked how they carefully selected the different culture of children and explained the difference in features and how to draw them. I tried a couple of the exercises and felt I had found out a secret. Great Job.

Carrie Stuart Parks always produces good instruction and advice in her books. She clearly states methods for achieving not only a "good" likeness, but an almost perfect one.While I am a painter rather than a person who draws finished portraits, I find the technical aspects, (tools) of drawing to be a bit cumbersome for painting. However, her instruction on drawing and measuring specific areas of a face is priceless, and of tremendous help in the early stages of a painting. I use this book often as a reference, and wouldn't part with it.

The book had how to draw nudity of children! I would never have bought the book if I had known this before hand. The book was sent to my son in prison and he had to throw the book in the trash!! My money wasted!!!

I bought a bunch of art books when I decided to get back into drawing. I really like this one. It's got a lot of good information in it and I found it to be very helpful. A worthy addition to my library. Would purchase again.

This is an approachable, friendly guide to drawing portraits of children. It's suited to aspiring artists of varying levels of proficiency. The organization of the book is quite helpful, beginning with materials and techniques and then progressing to the different components of the face and the changing moods of those liveliest and fastest-moving of subjects, children. The writing style is encouraging and upbeat. The author-artists also clearly enjoy working with children.

Love this book. Shows me alot of different ways to draw and makes it easy to follow. Recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to draw
