Works very good! Water proof the easy quick cheap way!
Ok everybody i have been reading all these reviews and no one discovered what i did! Ok i found that the transmitter will not go through glass. So putting it in a jar will not work to protect it from rain sleet heavy fog snow etc. Fog could be worse than rain because it could draw damp inside. But what i found is that the signal goes through plastic just fine!!!!! I use a clear plastic sandwich bag and tape it shut and it works very good. Now you need to put the bag on like you would put on a car cover (Drape it down over the top) then tape it at the bottom and around the screw. If you use the dollar store clear shiny tape or packing tape it holds very well and you have to tear the bag to change the battery the tape will not come loose. That will protect your transmitters even from blowing rain. I did not test all kinds of plastic but it works even with thick soft plastic. The kind of container lunch meat comes in with the snap on lid. It works to 20 feet or more with baggies to detect movement. I did not test for long distance between transmitter and reciever but if someone does please post the results. Very thin plastic wrap may work even better for distance? I have had my driveway alerts for 14 months and they are working very good. one other review here said they had one that worked for 5 years. For the price they can't be beat!!! When the transmitter battery gets down to about 6 volts it will start alarming constant because it does not have enough power to reset itself. Alot of people are complaining about birds and deer and dogs and cats setting it off well that is what the sensor should do! It is a PIR sensor that is what it does detect heat. Even the ones that cost much more will still pick up dogs and deer. Unless you get a very pricey one then it may not give as many false alarms. But as said here in a recent review that if you take some time and point the sensor correct it will greatly reduce the false alarms. It is a good idea to put it in a bird house to hide it and protect it from the rain. I think it is great for security. This could alert you BEFORE someone gets in your house. Then they can not sneek up on you when you are asleep! You will have a advantage because you will be ready for them and you know the house better than they do! And then you can take them OUT!!!!! OH YES YOU CAN!!!! A burglary happens every 14 seconds in the US. (Google it) I like it because it is 100% wireless and the batterys in the reciever are still working after 14 months! You can also plug it into a 4.5 volt adaptor. I turn it off when away and in the day unless i am expecting someone. I bought 3 and think they are very good for the price $7.00 for the transmitter and $7.00 for the reciever.

Purchased 4, 5 months ago and can write a review now
I purchased 4 Driveway Patrols from Amazon 5 months ago from under Werehouse Deals for $6.99 each because the boxes was crushed a little. Amazon said it was over 90 days and seems my feedback was to late. So I hope this helps someone For me to write a Honest opinion, I could not write it in 1 month sorry lol. After receiving them, As usual I had to take one apart to see how it could be waterproof. I was impressed with the design for the cost. Putting it back together I noticed a o-ring {rubber washer} same as on the battery door I coated both with Vaseline for a better seal and extend the life of the rubber. 2 was placed in the weather and 2 was placed under cover. The 2 outside I cut a piece of foam plate about 2 inches wider then the Sensor and formed a 45 degree V useing a hair dryer and placed it just above the screw before I placed the Sensor up. That was the only place I saw that might catch water while I had it apart. I have not had a problem out of any of them. I live in S.C. on 2 creek's and the weather is brutal here at times. Wildlife and big falling leaves do set them off but to me that is expected. I use just 2 of the Receivers about 70 ft. apart and at times both don't go off, Which is a good thing, But one or the other always goes off if someone breaks the beam. Day time they pick up father then at night and it depends on where you put them, I have one spot I tried 3 Sensors at, Because it picks up over 100 ft. lol They change with the weather which I would say is normal. My biggest worry was having to buy batteries, But I went 3 months before having to replace the sensor batteries { 9 volt } Which I think is great, But as with all batteries I purchased rechargeable ones on sale from Amazon because now I can't see doing without my Sensors. You can tell when they are starting to get weak because they don't pick up as well. As far as the Recivers, One I have never had to change the batteries in yet, But I do turn it off on most days and the other one, lol { Not Recommand } I had a 120 volt AC/DC Adapter with output 5 volt, 1 amp as it requires a 4.5 volt output ;) Figured I had 2 more if I burned one up lol Seems to work fine. I need to mention that I took Ind Elec.Eng. in school and did it with precations. On the box it says Range is 400 ft. I can not get over 200 to 250 ft Range, Maybe under other conditions. I'll give you another update on their 1 yr. Anniversary. ;) As far as would I trust my life on them, I do every night. TC & GB Wayne PS If You look close, There's only about 1/4 in. wide opening from top to bottom, behind all that lens, That amazed me lol Driveway Patrol Sensor and Receiver Kit Driveway Patrol Sensor and Receiver Kit I would like to add also with rain and snow that over time that nothing will last and this is a simple way to help prolong the life of your sensor. Take same foam plate or use a little calking and cut the side or curve out of 20 oz. to 2 liter plastic bottle about 4 or 5 inches long and place it sideways just above the sensor so that the curve comes up and goes over the top of it, I placed my a little behind the top with 2 thumb tacks to hold it in place and again used a hair dryer to form it down a little and this will keep the rain off it without interfearing with the beam, Makes a great lil rain and snow shield. ;)) Enjoy and if I can help or if your have any questions, Please feel free to ask. Sry it was last that nite and I forgot to add that part. HMMMM Think I got sometimers, Not Alzheimer's lol ;)) Again TC $ GB Wayne

Sunlight Drives Me Crazy
After reading all the comments about false alarms in so many units I ordered two units. One came from the east coast and the other from AZ. Both arrived on the 4th day following my order placement. Each unit appeared in good working order when batteries were installed. (Note: When you turn them on there is a 15-30 second time frame to stabilize.) I placed one inside and one outside using one receiver. (Note: All driveway patrol units have ONE frequency that they use.) More on the in a minute. After an hour I started having an increase in false alarms and realized that the unit outside was in direct sunlight and I placed a shade over the top. All false alarms went away after the 30 second reset period. In order to confirm this sensitivity to sunlight I switched the units and had the same result. The next thing I wanted to know as the actual area of coverage. Using the indoor unit I determined the area to be approximately 15 degrees wide for each unit. The farther away from the sensor you are the wider the area of coverage. (like a slice of pie) Sensitivity distance is dependent on the object size and speed of transition across the sensed area. More importantly, the difference in temperature (called the Temperature Differential or Delta 'T') between the local area (Ambient Mean Temperature - AMT) and the moving object has the greater influence on how each sensing unit "Decides" when to trigger an alarm. For example: A person running directly across the path of the sensitive area will trigger an alarm far more often where-as a cat strolling across at an angle may not. Both of my units sensed my walking at a casual pace 50 feet away from the units. And both units triggered an alarm at 100 feet during the cool evening and night time hours from a passing car. Next, I wanted to determine if the "400 foot" transmitting distance was actually achievable. After several attempts to send a trigger 400' I'm convinced that 400' feet is the theoretical distance that the signal strength can be recognized by the receiving unit. This distance was not achieved under normal operation. But I was able to get an alarm signal at that distance with a parabolic reflective surface behind the receiver which helped focus the weak signal. Note: this distance is based on line of sight and is reduced by signal absorbing objects such as walls, chain link fences and other solid obstructions. In the end I believe that the greatest influence for false signals is the sun. But in chatting with other owners I've also become aware that in urban environments there is a possibility that one or more of your neighbors may have a system just like yours. If you've never had any false signals and all of the sudden you start getting them it very well may be that one of your neighbors has just installed one or more units and you're able to pick up their transmitter. I say this because of the specifications that indicate that there is only ONE frequency for every Driveway Patrol sold. If you have neighbors with these installed within your reception range, you're more than likely to get their signals and they will be picking up yours. Keep that in mind when considering the purchase of the DP system. SO... What's my final take on the Driveway Patrol motion sensor? It does what it claims to do, almost. Set-up is important and proximity to other systems can be a big pain. If your in an area with a lot of activity these things will indeed drive you crazy. The constant beeping (aka Radio Shack entrance chime) of the false alarms will make you turn it off. The volume has TWO settings... Loud and LOUDER. They aren't discrete and some people will call that a benefit. Others won't care and the rest of the noise sensitive world will hate them. My solution was to wrap the lower half of the receiver in a layer of foam held in place with rubber bands. That took care of about 50% of the volume and from there on the system has been great. So (1) Keep these out of the sun (you may even need to make an enclosure that will offer ample protection from the heat and light of the sun) (2) Place your transmitter at a right angle to the general direction of travel (3) add some sound deadening material to reduce the noise to a bearable level. (4) Hope that your neighbors close by don't already have these installed. If you can do this you'll be able to know when folks come to visit whether they are expected or not.

Receivers do not work
Have used these devices for a very long time since As Seen on TV first offered them and usually buy from one of their stores. Being that I am not venturing out on my usual shopping trips during the pandemic was very happy to find them on Amazon. Didn't expect any problems. Installed the motion detector early morning and worked out in the yard most of the day, every time I passed the motion detector the light came on. Later that night when the deer came into the yard I wondered why the receiver was not activated. Changed batteries, nothing. Got out the receiver from the second box and installed batteries, nothing. I always order two as the motion detectors seem to go first usually because an animal (squirrel) attracted by the light chews it. My first system lasted for a very long time, probably more than 10 yrs and was replaced because of the motion detector's demise. The second system was purchased because I could not just purchase the motion detector part, but I could still use my original receiver with it, which I hoped would be the case with this purchase as the original receiver is better quality. No luck there, but the receivers that came with the new items don't work either. Now in order to return them I need to either take them to a store in the area, a locker drop off, or for a refund pack them up and have UPS pick them up with some code sent by text. Have marked the receivers with magic marker so once they are returned no one else will have the experience of receiving merchandise that does not work. So once I get them packed up and returned, I will wait until the pandemic eases up and go over to the As Seen on TV store and get them, hoping they will still be in business. These are usually an inexpensive and reliable product, very disappointed with the ones I received this time. Will buy direct next time,

Love this Home monitoring detector system full motion detection & Now I feel much safer knowing mother has that extra awareness
Love this Home monitoring detector system full motion detection & Now I feel much safer knowing mother has that extra awareness, we installed a few of these around house to notify my mom of intruders or visitors & man it works fantastic & as planned! We bought the whole kit! FYI, I was a full time caregiver for four years taking care of my loving grandmother of 98 in her last days of life which just happened I did such a good job she lived 4 years longer than everyone expected her to! Vanilla Ensure and Yogurt and Vitamins is what I have her daily! Onward to suggestions, I had gotten a few things to help in the quest to prevent my Grandma when she would get up by herself to go to bathroom she would fall often! I hadn't any rest or private time or peace of mind constantly worried about her to the point we connected in time. I could feel her breathing properly or not. a personal thing between the both of us! SO I tried a few things and created a INSIDE CAMERA SYSTEM in various places in the house were she liked to sit and like to go, It worked for a while watching all the Recycled cellphone android IP Cameras streaming to a TABLET that displayed 9 cameras full time! In time the android Tiny monitor cam pro app worked and got better and better with an amazing DEV at the helm! Todays Tiny monitor cam PRO has motion detection built into the actually monitor app so no longer needing Motion detectors, Just needing really good camera at this point! Als I tried pull string alert systems that did in fact help me to arrive to grandma in time to help her to her destination! Looking back now though I would of have Much preferred these motion sensors in the long run with the full kit telling me where I need to go check out movement etc! In all this stuff is to help bring a caregiver peace of mind and help make easier to live alongside giving care to loved one! Enjoy Hi5 I hope anything I shared with you all may help you one day! I live in the country like to be aware when someone comes up to my ...
I live in the country like to be aware when someone comes up to my house. I bought this to use as a driveway alarm for when cars enter my driveway I can be prepared. I've had it about 3 months in use and it has done its job most of the time. When it does work its great, when it doesn't work you get a surprise knock on your door and wonder why the alarm didn't go off. I placed the sensor on a tree about waist high and about 4ft off the edge of driveway facing the driveway. The sensor seems to pick up motion from about a 180 degree angle and a distance of around 12-15ft. The sensor uses a 9V and the receiver uses C batteries and the receiver has the option for a 110V plug in but no plug was included and not sure where I would get one. The receiver has a red LED light that illuminates when the alarm sounds, the alarm has a high/low/off setting. The sensor has a small red LED on the front when motion is detected it illuminates and sends the signal to the receiver to sound off. On the high setting the alarm is pretty loud, it will wake me up and I sleep like the dead. The tone it makes it just the same as your local quicky mart, bing bong......bing bong. I placed the alarm audio receiver in my window in line with the sensor about 150' away. I did notice that if the audio receiver is not visible from the sensor it would not pick it up. If i moved the sensor to the middle of my room or anywhere that it did not have a clear shot out a window or door the alarm would not sound, it would not pick up the signal from the reviever. My major complaint is that when it rains it will leave water drops on the lens of the sensor and it will not pick up anything. I noticed that in the mornings if there is heavy morning dew or there is some condensation on the lens of the sensor will not pick up motion and alarm will not sound. The lens itself collects water so it's blocked to see motion and takes a few hours to dry out and function normally. I thought this would be ok to use outdoors since it's a "driveway" alarm and driveways are outside but this is not meant for outdoor use apparently. Im sure if I added a small cover like a roof over the sensor to keep the rain off the sensor it would help but then again I shouldn't have to if this product is advertised as an outdoor driveway sensor. All in all this product is ok. When it works its very helpful but I will be trying different options to eliminate the problems with a wet sensor. I would also like to find a sensor with a further range and I will review them as well. I hope this helped.

Works fine with proper mounting/positioning of sensor
Having read many of the reviews in regards to positioning, sheltering, and heat related false alarms, I planned ahead and mounted mine as follows: Wanted to monitor the back of my manufactured home in a gated park that has had some teen intruders scouring the area at night for things to take (most likely to pawn for drugs). I used a 2 lb coffee can as a housing, primered with gray primer inside & out, created an 'L'-brkt to match the mounting hole of the sensor, which I mounted inside the can about 3" back from the front, and drilled holes in the back for 2 large 'zip ties' to mount to the park's 5' chain link fence. It was positioned facing north so that the morning-thru the day-to afternoon sun would not affect it. I also painted the outside with 'reflective coating' (i.e. Kool-Coat) since I live in AZ. Cut a notch in the front to allow rain drainage. [see Product views for pic of unit as mounted] I get few false alarms with this config, but some from large white trucks/vans traveling past the front road which is about 150' away from the back fence.*** I believe that this device monitors heat via IR (infrared) or NIR (near-infrared) and integrates the 'window' that it monitors, allowing for 'slow-changing' ambient conditions w/o alarming, but looking for a relatively 'quick change' to alarm. Standing still in one spot wont cause the sensor to re-alarm until their is movement once again. Besides movement, blowing trees/shrubs causing 'moving' (or modulated) shade/sunlight across the area being monitored could yield false alarms. I have had 'none' at night while sleeping, and so the white truck/van alarms during the day time must be from reflected sunlight..(?). I'm happy with this device (found a stray 120vac to 5vdc power supply in my pile of used P.S.'s from old electronic devices to use with the Monitor unit), and with the housing/positioning I used to mount it which has paid off... It is 5 Stars for the price, but is 4 Stars for the function, and needs some more discriminatory 'smarts' in the electronics to be both a sensitive but yet fewer false alarm sensor/monitor system---which of course would drive the price higher. Pic of Sensor mounted: [see Product views for pic of unit as mounted] *** [1 mo later: have noticed that 'fast-moving clouds' going across the sun will also give occasional false alarms. Again, the sensor looks for a quick change in the overall integrated IR light being viewed to generate an alarm. Also have noticed some clouds of dust (I live near the desert) generate an alarm. All is OK for me, as I wanted to monitor the back of my place for night-time intruders, and have had no false alarms during the night, with the only alarm being a coyote passing thru!]

GREAT FOR TRAINING INDOOR CATS. CHEAP & HUMANE
Great news. If you wish to keep your cats out of an entire room, this will do the trick. I learned this after spending $180.00 on ScatMats. Cats are smart critters and learn quickly. After getting zapped, instead of jumping up on the counters at night, they'd just loiter around on the kitchen floor playing tag and daring each other to see who might be dumb enough to take a leap. What I really wanted was for them to stay out of the kitchen altogether. I tried placing the ScatMats on the floor but they'd jump over them. I read countless reviews on electric-eye devices that spray. None were without problems and the refills are expensive. Mount the DRIVEWAY PATROL alarm facing into the room about light switch high at the room entrance so you can easily turn the switch off before entering the room. Set the electric eye sensor on the floor next to a wall a few feet inside the room. At first, the cats will casually enter the room and walk past the alarm and curiously inspect the weird new thing on the floor. That's when the training session begins. Unless there's another entrance, they have to run toward the screaming monster to escape. The alarm only lasts 3 seconds. That's ample time for them to be all the way in the back of the house with enough momentum to go into orbit. We haven't had a cat in the kitchen at night in over 4 weeks. They all mull around at the entrance every morning waiting for me to enter before they'll go near the kitchen. I store the sensor in a dark cabinet during the day to save the battery power. The ScatMats are in storage until the next overnight company arrives.

excellent for security
I set it up in my garage to let me know when someone is entering when I forget to lock it., And it work just fine.
