They also block light very well - I almost can't get up in the morning because I feel like it's still dark! These curtains are not really velvet, more of a suede feel but so nice and thick and heavy. They totally block the light. They look stately in my drawing room. The edges are square and hems well-sewn. Really glad I bought these! Great value for the money.
