Fiio M9
I bought this to replace another aging Fiio player as I wanted Bluetooth. As I have found before with Fiio the sound quality is superb even on low bit rate MP3's, but the interface is very clunky and long winded. The unit is very well made and feels quality in the hand, I found it had impressive Bluetooth range far better than my phone. Battery life too is impressive especially using Bluetooth but when using the internal amp and DAC's was quite power hungry but sounded so much better.USB C for charging is a game changer making for rapid top up as well as putting music on the player.Pros:Premium quality buildSound qualityBreathes life into old MP3'sBluetooth rangeUSB CBattery lifeProtective case suppliedCons:Clunky interfaceSlow starting up

EXCELLENT BUT WITH ONE BIG PROBLEM - FOR ME ANYWAY
After much research and a Sony purchase that I returned, I was initially delighted with this player. I wanted a quality player with big capacity, so this coupled with a 512GB memory card fitted the bill. Feels good in the hand, excellent sound and a perfectly good user interface. So far so good. However, one of the main reasons I bought this player was so I could start using Tidal to play Hi-Res music. Took me a while to get around to setting this up, but when I first started playing music on Tidal via the player it kept dropping. I couldn't figure out why as my home broadband Wi-Fi is fine. So I went on the Fiio forums and discovered that this is a common problem, and what's more it's a hardware one so can't be fixed with a Firmware update. I am very disappointed, as apart from this the player is fantatic. So, my conclusion is that if you just want to load all your music onto this and play it that's fine, but if you want to use Tidal, forget it.

Does not function as intended.
Having always purchased and enjoyed Sony's Walkman range I decided to go for something different this time around. The battery in my Sony NW-A15 was not keeping it's charge after some years of good use. I wanted something that would allow me to stream via Spotify . After much research I settled on the Fiio M9. Unfortunately, it was not a wise choice. While the player sounds excellent I found that it could not and would not stay connected to Wifi. I'm not a Luddite so I was totally willing to trawl through forums and reviews to resolve this problem. However, it was a fruitless exercise. In any case this is 2020. We are way beyond the days of having to tweak and hack devices to force them to work as described. This is the first time I have ever returned a purchase on Amazon. I'll be buying the Sony NW-A105 instead.

The M9 is a great product.
The M9 is very easy to use and has a good battery life. It has great audio quality when songs are downloaded in WAV or equivalent. Maybe the size and weight could be an issue if used on the move.

A handsome piece of kit with excellent sound quality, let down badly by its interface.
Having owned and being pleased with a FiiO x1, I decided to replace it after it failed, with another FiiO, and the reviews of the M9 were very positive. Unfortunately the M9 looked great and sounded great but the Android interface was sluggish and unresponsive, which was just too frustrating. Updating the firm-ware made very little difference and so I chose to replace it with a Cowon PD2. So, very disappointing and an expensive mistake on my part.
