Sadly, it's gotten harder to find and the market I originally bought it from closed a few years ago and the other market I continued to buy it from, no longer carries it. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE I'VE FOUND. This paste is delightfully unique and I've come to depend on it for a few recipes that just don't taste the same when I've tried other similar products. Many of those are more 'saucy' or chunky (like a finely minced salsa) but this is really a paste with a heady 'earthy' flavor that I really like. My only complaint with this was that the first batch I ordered wasn't packed carefully enough and the jars arrived shattered. Given I am paying a lot more buying it online (about $7 for each jar that normally cost me about $3.50 at the Asian grocery) I expected better care in shipping but as usual with any problem, desertcart made good on the transaction and refunded my order and I reordered another two pack which arrived in fine condition. I hope the recent tariff fiasco does not make this impossible to find (or prohibitive in price) when next I run out. I've had it before but no longer live near stores where I can buy it, so I'm glad it was on Amazon. Came very quickly, very well packed. The silicone brush is handy. It's useful for applying oil to a pan, to slices of eggplant, etc., and it goes right into the dishwasher.
