Bought these over a year ago! Here's what I've learned...
I bought these in Oct 2019 after a scary incident with my senior dog on my hardwood stairs. I love mine! Here's some tips to address the issues I see in other reviews:- Make sure to take off the clear plastic protection off the rugs when these arrive. Be gentle and careful not to try to pull off the white strip. You then feel the white slightly resistive material underneath. That is what will stick to your stairs.- Your stairs need to have some sort of resistive coating for this to work. Mine do and they stick really well. I don't see these working for outdoor use on concrete, wood that hasn't been treated/sealed and the like. Basically anything that is poreous isn't going to work because this material they use seems to do best if the surface itself has a little bit of grip too. I hope that makes sense!- When installing or reinstalling after cleaning, try rubbing them on the stairs to get some static electricity going. This will sometimes help get the them to really latch to the steps. Also make sure you stairs are clean or they will have are time sticking.- Yes you can machine wash these! I did it the first time but my mistake was also throwing them in the dryer too. Some "lost" their stick from that and it wrinkled the rugs (I got the stick back though, in the next tip). I recommend if you do wash them use a mild detergent (no fabric softener) and do the gentlest cycle possible. Do NOT put them in the dryer! Hang dry. I really don't recommend regularly putting them in the wash because they could/can fray and they won't last as long.-Lost the stickiness? I found out by trial and error that just simply cleaning the white side with a gentle cleanser and towel gets the stick right back. I think even water will do the job too but mine all got really dirty so I wiped them down, let them dry (white-side up) and then just stuck them on the stairs again. They look and feel brand new!I hope these tips are helpful. These are expensive so I hate to see people waste the money if they are confused how to best use and clean these things. If you treat these right, they are a great investment!

Would not lay flat - danger of tripping
The media could not be loaded. Bought to make stairs safer for an elderly dog, and for me, as I don't have full feeling in one foot, and because it said they won't damage stair treads of e.g. a rental. On wood stairs cleaned well per instructions, the treads would not stay flat (see photos and video). They were not shipped flat, and the bend from packing remained in the treads and would not flatten out. The bit that raised up can catch a foot and cause someone to trip. Photo shows stairs where I tried to install them. Older home, wood, in good condition, flat, no warping. I understood from the manufacturer site that these are not supposed to be sticky adhesive, but rather non-slip. The two ends seemed like they should stay put, but that "pooch" in the middle is a deal-breaker.The treads came with a tab that indicated you pull on it to remove the backing film. The tabs just pulled off and did not release the backing film (see photo). Had to get a small box knife to get under the film to start removing it. If not for that, they would be easy to install. And yes, I only removed the thin backing film, nothing more.Unfortunately I didn't install these until after the refund window expired due to some other things going on in the house. I'll re-purpose them in some other application where I can glue or tack them down. Too bad. They material is good quality, the size was perfect, and they would have been ideal if they adhered as advertised.

Easy installation, attractive, effective, excellent value
Our 20-year-old sealed oak staircase was becoming treacherous for my aging wife and me. This product arrived yesterday and I installed it this morning. I think it will be great for our purposes. We compared its price to alternative approaches of painting the steps with something gritty or installing additional railings, and this approach already looks like the best value. I was worried about the installation, but there was no need. In case it proves helpful to others, here's the approach I used. First, I cleaned the wood surfaces with cleaning wipes followed by a moist cloth. Second, I fiddled with questions of which layer was the backing and how I could best peel it off. The backing is a very thin clear plastic sheet and not the white material beneath it. There is some challenge in starting to peel it. Sometimes a vigorous pull on the arrowed tab got it to start separating and sometimes not, in which case I ran my thumb over it a few times to initiate the separation. Then, I found that a pair of tweezers was much better than my fingers in gaining a purchase on the sheet after which I could grab hold of it with my fingers. It came off neatly in one piece. The next surprise was that the sticky surface of the tread was not very sticky -- at least not to my touch. But it worked great once attached to the stair-tread. I could even make adjustments in its placement by lifting part of it or all of it and then pressing it back on. My wife and I made trial runs up and down the stairs and found the surface very stable to walk on. It does gather fuzz easily and I had to remove a few pieces from the newly applied surfaces before taking these pictures. But this is not really a complaint.
