Excellent, easy-to-follow book!!
This book is excellent!! It has very clear and easy to follow directions for making 25 different small felt "toys". My daughter used some of the patterns to applique on a small hoop, to make Christmas ornaments (the penguin, Santa, etc.) I highly recommend this book! Please mark if you find my review helpful. Thank you so much!

Amazing, but very time consuming, holiday craft.
I've LOVED putting this together for my niece, but each little critter takes me 1-2 hours to cut, (sometimes re-cut), embellish, stitch, stuff, and complete... So, I gifted her 6 critters this Christmas--with 2019 sewn on their backsides--and hope to have the rest finished by December 1, 2020!

Great, but Somewhat Difficult
Overall, I’m having a great time with this book. I’ve made 5 of the figurines so far and it’s been a really enjoyable way to pass time. The only issue is that the book isn’t quite as beginner level as I expected it to be. The patterns are on the pages and need to be traced onto paper and then onto felt instead of being provided and the instructions tend to be rather sparse, saying things like “see the two pieces together” when you get to something complicated. I’ve had to supplement with YouTube videos a few times and that’s worked really well, so don’t be afraid to consult outside sources.

Cute and simple projects!
As the name suggests, Sew York Own Felt Advent Calendar is a book filled with tutorials for 24 mini felt toys and a felt advent calendar to make before or during the holiday season. The book starts with a visual table of contents with thumbnails of each toy, so you can easily find your projects after putting the book down. In the Introduction, Sachiyo shares that all the projects are simple so you "do not need to be an expert at sewing" and the entire advent calendar and all the toys are reusable for years to come. You can embellish them as she did or in different ways, and she shares some suggestions for making changes. The book moves on to Materials and Tools, which explains the threads, stuffing, sewing, and marking tools you'll need to make these toys. The toys are hand sewn while the advent calendar can be machine or hand stitched.Making the Calendar starts with a materials list. As with all patterns in this book, measurements are listed in metric (with U.S. customary units in parenthesis). There are written instructions and step out photos to guide you through the process of making the calendar and options for solid backing or a rolled/portable version. The Basic Techniques section explains how to use templates and how to identify fold, cut, and sewing lines. Written and illustrated instructions are provided for basic embroidery (blanket, chain, French knot, fly) stitches. The final chapter is the one you've been waiting for -- the felt toys. Each toy includes a materials list, a finished size, templates for the characters and accessories, clearly written instructions, and at least one full-sized project picture. Some patterns include step out photos of assembly or other techniques. Many include several pictures of the final project.I love this book! The projects are so cute, but they're also simple. It's great for a patient beginner while these would also be fun for more advanced sewists to work on for a relaxing project. Tip: If you're a true beginner, consider using coordinating rather than contrasting thread for your first projects. It's more forgiving of your mistakes! If you like making holiday projects and want some inspiration for adorable little softies, you'll love it, too.Full disclosure: Search Press North Amera provided me with a free review copy of Sew Your Own Felt Advent Calendar by Sachiyo Ishii. Although I accept free products for review, I do not accept additional compensation, nor do I guarantee a positive review. My reviews are based entirely on my honest opinions.

Several Errors. Watch out.
Good ideas. If you plan to "stuff" the ornament , you must double amount of felt.Toy soldier...directions do not include the red color. I am prepping this to take on vacation when we get to. Sadly, I expect more errors. Have ony gone through book once.

This is just the book--not a kit!!
I ordered this thinking it was a complete kit and was so disappointed to find it was just a book. Way too expensive for just a book so I'm returning it.

Super Sweet
The media could not be loaded. I’m making this as a gift. I found it fun and easy to sew. I changed some things to personalise. Some pieces are a little fiddly but worth it. I used pure wool felt as it handles nicely. I’m sure when I’ve finished it it’ll be gorgeous. Overall a fun project.

Lots of Inspiration Here
Pleased with all the cute little patterns that I can use my scrap felt on to make these easy projects. Although it is themed for the Christmas season, some of them (bear, owl, elf, bunny, elephant, squirrel and robin) can be made throughout the year. I think they are delightful and my grand daughter will like them. It wouldn't be that difficult to make them into little finger puppets.
