I wouldn't recommend this product.
The lid does not fit air tight. It does not have a rubber O ring or gasket to prevent leak. When I noticed the airlock is not bubbling unlike another bucket I started mead in at the same time, I checked around and moved this bucket a around whereupon I noticed small liquid leak from under the lead. I tried to tamp and close it every which way, but the leak would not stop. I have another buckets from earlier that I had never had this problem with.Another item I wish was different was I wish the bucket was wider but shorter, but that is a personal preference, not as detrimental as the leaky lid.I wouldn't recommend this product.

Leaks gases like my grandpa
Like others have said this fermenter does not seal well at all. I pounded the lid down with a rubber mallet and replaced the grommet and still no CO2 escaping out the airlock. Do yourself a favor and get a fermenter that has an O-ring in the lid.

Not an good fermentation vessel.
This bucket is not air tight.Useless as a fermentation vessel.Have the same mixture fermenting in a different manufactures bucket and it works fine. Move to this bucket and no bubbles in the airlock.Useless.All this is good for is a mixing bucket. No bubbles from the air lock. I switched to a 5 gal. carboy and bubbles like crazy. Do not buy this bucket for fermenting.

How in the hell do you get the lid off this thing without spilling the contents. I had to use a pair of pliers and a screwdriver to try to pry the lid off of this piece of junk. Home Brew Ohio should be ashamed of itself trying to foist this tall Home Depot bucket off as a usable brewing Item. Then, you have to use a hammer to pound the lid back down tight. But don't put the pliers and screwdrivers to far away because you will need them to get the lid back off. You will also need a mop to clean the floor after you spill everything from the bucket trying to pry the lid off.

There has been some criticism from others stating it doesn't create a perfect seal, I haven't experienced this
This fermenter has worked very well. There has been some criticism from others stating it doesn't create a perfect seal, I haven't experienced this. If you do experience this, as I did with a different brand, simply create a seal on the outside with some plastic wrap and tape.

I have 5 gallons of juice fermenting and would like to have a legitimate seal
Doesn't seem to seal correctly, I have fermentation activity, but the CO2 doesn't come out the air lock. Anyone know how I can get around this and make the lid seal correctly? I have 5 gallons of juice fermenting and would like to have a legitimate seal.

Leaks liquid and gas due to ill fitting lid which is difficult to remove. It made me think the yeast wasn't working because there was no bubbling in the airlock. Press down on the lid lightly with your airlock attached and filled. If you don't see bubbles the lid is not sealed, or in my case does not seal. If you press vigorously you may see bubbles even if the lid is not sealed.

I called Home Brew Ohio and they were basically useless for help
Info here does not mention you need to buy a certain tool to get the lid off. In reality, it's just a bucket with a hole in the lid. You can put a hole in any food quality bucket and use for the same purpose. I called Home Brew Ohio and they were basically useless for help.
