## Overview

Its classic design and high-quality craftsmanship make it an ideal gift for gamers.

## Description

Many Super Smash Bros. fans grew up playing Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo GameCube system, and some will always prefer that system's controller. The Nintendo GameCube controller also could be used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii. To honor that devoted loyalty to a classic way to play, Nintendo is introducing an adapter that lets up to four original Nintendo GameCube or Wave Bird controllers work with Wii U.

Review: Nintendo's Controller vs. Hori Battle Pad vs. PDP Fight Pad - If you're looking for a controller as authentic and perfect for Super Smash Bros (among many other games) as the original GameCube controller from the early 2000s, this is it. It's not just similar to the original GameCube controller, it IS that controller. It's in white (not originally a color available in the US) and has the Smash Bros. logo on the front instead of only "Nintendo", but other than that it is the same. But being the same controller means it has the same GameCube wire connection, which means to play with this on a Wii U you will need to purchase the elusive and expensive Wii U / GameCube controller adapter. You can still keep waiting for them to become more easily available at the $19.99 MSRP (instead of the $50-80 scalper price), or just get an off-brand one and hope it works. Similar to how the original Japanese white GCN controller had a slightly longer cable, this is still the case with this re-badged Smash Bros. version. So instead of the woefully inadequate 6 feet, you will get about 9 feet with this controller. Not as good of a range as wireless, but still decent. If you need, there are many off-brand GameCube extension cables available for cheap. I would also recommend looking into the alternative options that are cheaper and don't require the Wii U / GameCube controller adapter: *Nintendo GameCube Controller vs. Hori Battle Pad vs. PDP Wired Fight Pad* Nintendo's controller: [+] Includes rumble [+] Has the unmistakeable classic look and feel you are used to, including great analog sticks and natural feeling button presses [+] Can be used with GameCube console, older style Wii console with GameCube ports, and Wii U console with adapter add-on [-] Does not have ZL and ZR buttons, only the single Z button up top, nor the + and - buttons that are now commonly used in Wii & Wii U games [*] Is wired, limiting your mobility, but freeing you from the never-ending cycle of recharging batteries Hori's Battle Pad Controller: [+] Has ZL and ZR for better compatibility with newer games, as well as the + and - buttons [+] Has a turbo feature that may come in handy at times [+] Is slightly cheaper than Nintendo's controller [*] Has a flat finish that holds up well do use [*] Is semi-wireless as it connects to a Wii Remote, giving you more mobility but requiring constant battery swapping/recharging [*] Has button-press triggers instead of the analog slide-in triggers from Nintendo's original PDP's Wired Fight Pad Controller: [+] Has ZL and ZR for better compatibility with newer games, as well as the + and - buttons [-] Does not have a turbo feature [+] Is slightly cheaper than Nintendo's controller [+] Has the biggest variety of controller colors, designs, and character themes [*] Has a glossy finish that looks very nice but is a fingerprint magnet [*] Is slightly larger than the Hori [*] Is semi-wireless as it connects to a Wii Remote, giving you more mobility but requiring constant battery swapping/recharging [*] Has analog slide-in triggers similar to Nintendo's original, instead of the button-press triggers of the Hori Overall, they are all great options, and you will not be disappointed with any of them. Just know their strengths and weaknesses and make sure you get the best one for your play style.
Review: They're pretty nice. They all feel very crisp - Melee Players, listen up! I'm a melee-only smasher and bought this controller to replace an original spice orange nintendo controller. I've had this for 3 days now and here are my initial thoughts. Buttons: They're pretty nice. They all feel very crisp. All of the buttons are clicky and have a nice new springy-ness too them. The Y and X button especially seem to feel very new and sturdy. As a fox player, I need a consistent short-hop and these do the job for that. They allow a quick press and give me a solid short hop that I can rely on. I have no real complaints about the B and A button, and the Z feels very standard and nice. I will say that doing any sort of "button-sliding" like where you press Y and slide to B (for multi-shines or short hop double lasers) is a bit more difficult at first. With the Y button being more firm, it requires me to have to be just a little quicker and needs a harder press to get consistent multi-shines that stay on the ground. SHDL is not too hard to get used to and can get still pretty easily, but I will be honest and say that multi-shining is noticeably harder and it may take time to get used to. Triggers: Many people complained about the triggers and I understand why. They are a bit less responsive when pushing at a slight angle and can get stuck a tiny bit. I swapped my old triggers on and had no problems. I would say that getting used to the new triggers would not be that hard though, in my opinion. I understand where people are coming from when they talk about the angle issue, but my controller was nowhere near as bad as I expected as far as the triggers are concerned. If you have old triggers that you like, it may be worth it to buy a tri-wing screwdriver and replace the triggers on this controller. Sticks: Both analog sticks feel extremely nice. I will be honest and say that they are my favorite part about this controller. They feel nice and sturdy and springy. Both sticks reset to zero (center position) very quickly. They seem redesigned for smash and players who play high action per minute characters. The C-stick is nice and responsive and makes aerials easy. The left stick gives me a way more reliable dash dance, where I don't get stuck in turn around nearly as often. Also the Y-axis on the grey stick feels better than the older controllers. I'm noticing my fast falls are better when it comes to Fox shield pressure with Nair-Shines etc. They don't take long to get used to at all and I think they'll improve your game a lot. If I had one word to describe this controller, It'd be consistent. The controller feels consistent. It seems that I can trust my approaches and rely on my combos more without worrying about messing up. I still make mistakes, but this controller gives me way less missed techs and inputs. Overall, if you're a melee player at all, this is definitely a controller worth checking out. It's very responsive and has a very reasonable price tag. Also, the cord is longer which is a plus for me!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Official Controller with Tweaked Joystick Tightness, Stabilized Triggers (Metal Bars are inside), and Long Cable
*by A***G on March 17, 2015*

I purchased this controller to play Melee, Project M, and Smash 4 with Netplay and on console. It is an official Nintendo product, but it is not exactly the same as the other Nintendo Gamecube controllers with a few minor differences that may go unnoticed: I would like to preface my review first by stating that I own old GameCube controllers in good condition, the new non-Smash-branded white Nintendo GameCube controllers, and some old Wavebirds, and this controller is better than all of those. Heres my overall impression - I would recommend this controller over any other (even the new non-Smash-branded official Nintendo controllers) if you are looking for a new GameCube controller to play Smash with, whether you are doing high APM Melee tech skills, or are just looking for a controller to have a good time playing casually. And heres why: 1. The joystick tightness for this controller seems to have been tweaked by Nintendo in an interesting way. These controllers are clearly meant for not just any GameCube games, but definitely for Smash specifically. The reason for this is that the joysticks are noticibly more tight on the vertical axis compared to the horizontal axis. I personally like this - it makes dash dancing in Melee easy with the easier-to-push horizontal axis, and is just a nice overall feel for Smash overall since you usually just move horizontally unless you're jumping. 2. The triggers include stabilizers, unlike the non-Smash-branded official white controllers. These are the metal bars that are inside the controller which distribute the force evenly so that the metal bars still go down easily when you press them at an angle. These stabilizers were removed in the new non-Smash-branded official white controllers, and you will notice the triggers are not as smooth on those controllers - even my well-worn one is not as smooth as this one. I can definitely say this controller has triggers that feel as good as the old Gamecube controller triggers. 3. This controller has a long cable. I compared it to the new non-Smash-branded official white controller, and it is the same length. Other notes: - This controller has a matte finish, which is noticibly rougher than the new non-Smash-branded official white controller as well as any other Gamecube controller I have used. I like how it feels a lot, but it does seem to get dirty very quickly. - The buttons feel a bit noticibly stiffer than I remember the non-Smash-branded controllers being when I first got that, which I like. I believe this will wear better over time, and I'm not sure if its a placebo effect or not, but it already seems to have worn in from when I got this controller and feels great.
