It looks like a piece of furniture - quality akin to Ikea. There is a factory smell (maybe the glue used in it?). I've read that placing anything that off-gasses out in the sun/heat for a couple of days greatly diminishes the smell. We've had our crate for a week and the smell is almost gone even without putting it outside.Door staying closed - there are two latching mechanisms. A magnetic strip at the top of the door, and a locking mechanism in the handle. Our pup doesn't fight to get out of the crate, so haven't tested how strong the door is, but I don't see how a dog the size that is intended for this crate could push open the door with the lock engaged.Oh. Our pup (around 3 lbs) can get up into the crate easily. However, if you have a senior dog that can't step up, you can easily just leave the legs off the bottom. :) ### ⭐⭐ not a secure crate, looks good but functions poorly *by H***T on Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2019* While this crate looks good, it is not the best quality. It was challenging to put together and the pieces did not go together seamlessly, I had to be ok with it being "close enough". The MOST irritating thing about it was the door latch. It didn't work at all and the post that is supposed to latch into the side of the crate was too low and dug into the wooden door frame, making it impossible to lock. My husband had to completely re-do the mechanism in order for it to work. That is frustrating after paying top dollar for the crate.The door design could be much better. It is secure IF your dog is already crate trained and not tempted to push the limits of this crates security. The lock is located higher up the door of the crate which means that the bottom portion of the door is NOT very secure, you can push the door bottom in and out easily, which means a dog could start pushing or digging at the bottom of the door and get pinched by the door, damage the door or break it entirely. Dogs tend to dig where the door closes and that is the exact weak spot of this crate. It doesn't look like it could even be modified to be more secure sans putting a bolt on the outside of the crate which would totally destroy the look and thats probably the main reason you'd buy it in the first place.Now that my husband fixed the door lock, I'll keep the crate but if he had not been able to do that I would have definitely returned it. I will say that the interior is made of some kind of rounded plastic so it is easy to clean and has no sharp edges.I have added photos of the shoddy wood door finish and the dings that were present on the crate at unboxing. all in all its just cheap and shoddy for a 138.00 crate!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to use *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2021* More difficult to assemble than I thought it should be. My dog isn't a chewer, so really can't give a good answer, other than it is sturdy enough to make it harder to chew on.
