Fly Fishing Rod and Reel Combo - 3/5/8 WT Starter Kit with 4-Piece Fly Rod

The reel is advertised as right or left hand retrieve. That may be true however the drag will ONLY WORK if the rod is set up for left hand cast/right hand retrieve...making this a left hand reel. Setting it up for me, right hand cast the drage will only work while I try to reel inline. It will not work to slow a running fish or over run while stripping line. REEL IS LEFT HAND ONLY!

My husband’s review: This fly rod is pretty nice. My beef comes from the rest of the kit included. Please be prepared to tie your own knots and put on your own backer line, fly line, leader and tippet. Also, the reel is for lefties. If you are right-handed and fish lefty, you’ll be just fine, but if you’re like me, I reel with my left and hold the rod with my right (even though I’m left-handed, I’m weird like that). I’m still a novice at fly-fishing, so I’m not comfortable tying all of these clinch and nail knots.The action on the rod is quite nice and though I haven’t fished with it yet, I did attach another fly reel to it to give it a try. It feels very nice and for the price, you could do much worse.The flies it comes with are pretty generic and I’ll definitely use them for practice, but my real flies are of nicer quality and coloration. I’ll stick with those for actual fishing.Overall, if the reel would have been right-handed, I think this would have been a nice fly rod set. I just have to figure out how to make it work for me.

My husband has fly fished with the finest rods an inheritance can offer for many years. He was impressed by this rod and reel + combo for the price. It will be perfect for him to teach his wife or maybe son to fly fish.It isn't cheap looking although people who don't know about fly fishing might not realize that this rod is not heavy enough for lake fishing. This rod and reel are for the sweet little fish you might catch in a stream.A great set for learning with a teacher and supervision.

Like most things, you get what you pay for, and for eighty bucks you get a low quality fly rod, reel, case and accessories. This may serve you well as a starter set so if you either break it or loose interest in fly fishing you won't feel too bad about spending the money. Includes everything you need to get started.
