A: Bakhoor incense sticks can be broken up and burnt in this burner.  To clarify these are fragranced wood-chips.

However some bakhoor sticks are not easy to break.

**Q: Does this use batteries ?**
A: No, You don't need batteries. You would need a charcoal disc to burn incense. 

Follow the below steps to use this bakhour burner:

-Place a charcoal disc in the mabkhara (Incense burner)
-Apply flame (matchstick or lighter) to the disc until you see sparks traversing the coal
-After a while, the disc will form some gray soot like ash over the top indicating it is hot and ready
-Now you can place a piece of bakhoor on top of the disc with tongs and experience your exotic bakhoor fragrance
-Use a little for lighter fragrance and less smoke
-When you are done with burning bakhoor, dispose of the coal when you are sure that it is completely cold.

Beautiful burner. Nothing else like it on Amazon or the web. Also can be carried by base when lit without getting burned. The issue other reviewers said about ventilation are accurate. Charcoal and incense would not burn with lid in place. I solved that issue by drilling holes in the that coincide with every other hole in the base (see photo). Ventilation problem solved! Can now burn with top on. Give it 4 stars because I had to do that modification.
