Easily Replace USPS Lock in Cluster Mailboxes, but....
Purchased this one because it looked simple and of course the name "Defender Security" sold me on it. LOL! I had somehow lost my house keys and the only mailbox key I had was lost with it and I live in a development with the cluster mailboxes. I was informed by my mail carrier and my HOA that it is the responsibility of the property owner to replace the lock, not USPS nor the property development. I stopped by my local USPS (since no one answers the phone) and the person behind the counter told me to purchase one from Home Depot or Lowe's and then stop by afterwards and they can schedule someone to replace it. I decided to take a chance and check Amazon instead and I probably paid more for this one.Luckily, at my local USPS, they send someone to install it for FREE, otherwise you, a handyman, or a locksmith will have to take care of the removal of the old lock and install the new one (but you have to wait for your mail carrier to be there to open the main lock). Although this one was very easy for the USPS mail carrier to install, the 1 steel cam (the metal long piece that actually moves up and down to lock the door in place) that this lock came with, was not the right size. Luckily he had extra cam styles on hand in his toolbox to replace it. If you are in need of purchasing one of these replacement locks, I recommend you purchase one that comes with multiple cams. Although the lock size is pretty universal, the cam isn't.Once installed, which only takes about a minute or two, it works great! It is so much smoother than the old lock I had on there and now when I look at the cluster mailbox, you can tell mine is new because it's so shiny. Almost glad I lost my keys. LOL! The USPS mail carrier who replaced it wouldn't even accept a tip for installing. WOW, that's service, and with a smile!

Does the job
The shorter cam included with this set was a perfect match for our street’s cluster mailbox. Took about 10 minutes to replace the old lock with this one. Wouldn’t have minded if it were a little cheaper, but $12 isn’t bad.
