Good value and versatility in a small, vibrant speaker
The Jamo S-801 speakers arrived packed in a single carton protected by styrofoam inserts. The shipping carton and speakers were undamaged. The sound of the S-801 speakers, right out of the box, was just OK. EQ helps. EQ can improve the overall balance of the Jamo S801, especially bringing up the level of midrange and vocals.Although on wall mounting is possible, even encouraged for surround use, as evidenced by the installed wall hanger bracket, the sound of the S-801 speakers improves when the speakers are some distance from the rear wall. I found that 30 inches (2.5 feet/76cm) measured from the wall to the back of the S-801 speaker's rear slot port sounded best in my room/setup. The soundstage widened and the imaging improved. The sound of male and female vocals improved as did some instruments. The S-801 speakers provide good detail in the upper range. Listening to the Miles Davis recordings of So What and Freddie Freeloader I could clearly hear the brushes moving on the cymbals. The Jamo S-801 speakers do not sound like box speakers. With the exception of some percussion sounds most of the music is not heard as coming directly from the speakers. This is probably due to the small size of the cabinets minimizing diffraction. The slightly trapezoidal speaker cabinets also reduce box resonances. If you follow the recommended amplifier power (60W) and keep under the maximum amplifier power (120W) you should not have any issue with overloading the Jamo S 801 speakers, especially if you use a high pass filter when using a subwoofer. For this review I used the WiiM Amplifier (rated at 60 Watts RMS into 8 Ohms) that I purchased from Amazon. Although you can use the Jamo S 801 speakers by themselves I obtained the best overall sound when I added a subwoofer.[Update: If you have been on a fence about whether to purchase the Jamo S 801 bookshelf speakers sold on Amazon and want to try music streaming using one of the WiiM streaming products (also sold on Amazon), there has never been a better incentive than room correction. The lastest version of the WiiM Home app includes room correction. *(* Note: Room correction is not currently enabled for the WiiM Mini, only for the WiiM Amplifier, WiiM Pro and WiiM Pro Plus. The recently released WiiM Ultra streamer/preamplifier also features room correction.)I tried using the WiiM Amplifier's room correction with the Jamo S 801 small bookshelf speakers that I previously purchased on Amazon. Room correction greatly improved the sound of the Jamo S 801 by precisely boosting the midrange frequency levels (which are significantly reduced as delivered by Klipsch/Jamo).I use a WiiM Amplifier (also purchased on Amazon) with a 10" subwoofer. The WiiM Amplifier's subwoofer output features bass management with both low and high pass filtering when listening to the Jamo S 801 speakers.Note: For comparison, the Jamo S 801 speaker and ELAC 4" passive wired (model BS41) bookshelf speakers (also sold on Amazon) are very similar in size but not in sound. The Jamo S 801 and ELAC BS41 are very small bookshelf speakers. These two speaker models are almost the same size. The Jamo S 801 needs to be used with a subwoofer to enjoy full range sound. By comparison, the ElAC BS41 plays down to below 50Hz, by design. (Kick drums have a fundamental frequency right around 50Hz.) You don't need to use a subwoofer with the Elac BS41 speaker unless you want to extend the bass response even lower. The Jamo S 801 is more efficient than the ELAC BS41. The Jamo S 801 needs less power for the same sound pressure levels (dBA) than does the ELAC BS41.]

Great for it's size
Fantastic bookshelf size speakers. The wood accents are beautiful and not cheap for sure. The sound is pretty "flat/somewhat true" meaning the drivers aren't putting any extra bass; the way I like it. Wish the cones were Kevlar (not for the sound but for durability), but for the price it's totally okay. I will buy another pair after I try the current set for a month or two for a small studio monitoring. I will recommend these speakers to people who are looking for something affordable yet look quite expensive. This review is only for the "passive" speakers I wouldn't know anything about the active speakers "801s pm".

Great speakers!
I got these along with a Jamo 808 subwoofer, a Fosi Audio BT30D amp, and a Douk Audio T4 Pro preamp as a budget setup to listen to vinyl, and I'm quite pleased with it all.The build quality of the speakers is good. They are heavy for the size and don't resonate at all. The finish is a woodgrain vinyl wrap over MDF so they will definitely show dings and scratches, but anything at this price point will be that way - and again, they look great. As for sound: the midrange is a little light but that seems normal for this price point. It's not awful, and it could certainly be worse. If you're looking for something a bit more full in the midrange the Jamo 803 tower speakers might work better, but these 801s are just fine as main speakers for a smaller space or as rear surrounds in a bigger system - especially with a subwoofer like the Jamo 808.All-in-all it's a great product for the price and I would recommend them for anyone looking for great sound on a budget.

Great Sounding System
I bought a complete surround system replacement for my aging and not so great Bose AM15 sat/sub system. I broke my wife's rule of "no furniture speakers". (She finally stopped complaining about how ugly they were." After years of "suffering" with the sonic "hole" problems of my old Bose system, I bought the Jamo Studio S system based upon a top review in "Sound and Vision" Magazine.I got the L/R 809 towers, the 801's for surrounds, the S 81 Center and the S8 Atmos speakers that mount on top of the 809 speakers for a nice clean look. Price was less than half of what I spent on the Bose system many years ago. Per the Sound and vision review, you need a Sub to really fill out the low end. I already had a 10" Sub, so this was not an issue for me. More than pleased with my new and full sounding 5.1.2 Atmos surround system. Also of note these speakers are made by Klipsch, a respected name in quality speakers.

For the money these are excellent speakers
These speakers are not harsh or bright. Nice smooth sound. The music doesn't sound like it's coming from the speaker. Very good sound stage. Bass is okay for a small speaker. With a sub nice full range system. I'm totally satisfied with the speakers.

Excellent for desktop...
Smallish, but very full, clear sound. Obviously, no real bass, but add a subwoofer, or get a larger speaker. Good materials and well made. Works for me...a bargain.

Good and inexpensive speaker
I didn't expect this pair of speakers would satisfy me as the speaker case looks 'inexpensive' and the size is smaller than I expected. It does meet my need after I connect it with my Quad Vera integrated amp. I buy this because the amp needs speakers with lower sensitivity to avoid the pop noise when I play the music with bluetooth connection. The woofer runs great as I don't expect a 4 inch small power woofer runs as good as a larger one. Good pair of speakers for the small hi fi system.
