Review: Great Lock - I've used this on two homes. Perfect for everyone in the family to get in without worrying about lost keys. We're in and out a lot... walking the dogs, different work schedules, etc. We really only use the front door. The battery lasted over two years with all that use. You need a screwdriver to change the battery, but it is pretty easy. Fairly simple to install. I think I could even be re-keyed to match other locks in the house. Note: this does not work with your phone/wifi. It is keypad or physical key only... which is what we were looking for.
Review: works well, useful, cheap finish - I replaced a Schlage keyed deadbolt with this combination item. It works very well. A combination lock allows my kids to open the door without having to keep a key. While I used to be "latch key kid" myself, my own kids are never home alone. Nevertheless, I might send them to the door with bags/groceries etc. while I'm still at the car. When we come back from walking the dog, they can open the door for me. I have confidence knowing they'll never be locked out. A combination lock means my wife and I don't have to carry keys. My wife has an electronic fob for her car, and my car uses a switch and starter button (old school). Eliminating the house key means no more keys at all. Brass metal keys, including Schlage and Kwikset have too much toxic lead in them. So much that they've been sued by State's governments but they are unlikely to change. Not having to handle a key reduces exposure to lead. The lock functions well. It was easy to install (to replace existing deadbolt) and the result was the cylinder turns easily, it fits properly, and works smoothly. Locking and unlocking from inside is just a turn of the large lever. Locking from outside involves pushing the top "Schlage" button and turning the knob to lock the deadbolt. Unlocking from outside, you can either enter the 4 digit combo into the keypad and turn the knob, or you can press the Schlage button to illuminate the keypad and then enter the combo and turn the knob. A 4 digit combo is quick and secure enough for the level of security this whole product is intended for. It provides for more than 3000 possible combinations, so a brute force attack on the combination is not as likely as a brute force attack on the door jamb or window. This is not a high security product, as it is intended for doors that can be kicked in, breached with a ram, or bypassed. The buttons appear to be durable and not likely to soon reveal discrepancies in use, but the combination can be changed easily to level the use of different buttons. The lock also supports multiple combinations, and therefore temporary combinations. I looked at alternatives, but determined this simple option is best. I imagine future cars (and houses) will have two-factor authentication to use -- you'll need to have something (probably a digital certificate with private key on your smartphone device) and to know something (a PIN), but you'll probably have an (slightly less secure) option to pre-enter or save the PIN so that you'll be able to open the door or use the car just by being near it. This combination lock won't unlock just because you're nearby, but it is a pretty easy PIN to enter. I looked at alternatives that include Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity, but they all involved a proprietary service with subscription or a device that was too expensive and unproven. I don't have long term results for this product yet, but expect it will fair well for several years to come. The brushed nickel finish on my Schlage door set failed with peeling varnish after about 5 years. I would have thought it would be nickel plated, but apparently they coat it in some kind of plastic varnish and it comes off. Because of that, I also doubt this combo deadbolt product is really brushed nickel, but instead it is probably the same fake painted-on finish. Edit: It's 2 years later and this lock continues to work brilliantly. I bought another for the door between the garage and house. Before I bought the second, I looked into "smart" locks and what's available today. The best feature they offer is automatic locking/relocking so you don't have to remember to lock the door on the way out -- but any lock that uses a motor to move the deadbolt is going to run the battery down faster and will depend on good alignment of the bolt with the strikeplate. My door is not misaligned, but the reality is that changing temperature and humidity causes the door frame to move. I think I prefer to use a little muscle and lock the door myself rather than depending on Alexa to do it for me. With this lock, I don't even need to bother with a key to lock or unlock it. It's great.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does this lock have an autolock feature?**
A: You have to turn it manually, which is the main reason I bought this unit. In my experience, similar units that "auto-lock" are problematic in that the "bolt" may not set correctly if not perfectly lined up. On our door, we had problems with humidity and the "auto" feature would jam unless you "jiggled" the door. Also, the "auto" lock units eat up the battery much faster.

**Q: Do the numbers wear on the commonly used keys (for your PIN entry?) That is, after repeated use, can a person tell which keys are pressed most often?**
A: ...even if one could identify the 4 most commonly used keys, there would still be 256 potential combinations since numbers can be repeated. I have had one of these for six years, and while the numbers have not worn, the buttons which are pushed most frequently are a bit dirtier than the numbers that never get pushed. They are not dirty but there is slight discoloration. However, since my wife and family each have separate codes, 8 out of the 10 buttons get used at some point. All that said, the keys are still clean and the oft used button are only barely discolored.

**Q: Is the keypad visible in the dark -- from a source other than reflected light?**
A: No, The Keyboard is not visible in the dark. You must touch a key on the pad before the keyboard lights. We press any key an then press the enter key before we enter a code.

**Q: read where rain can "fry" this unit, true???**
A: I have two of these and one of the touchpad deadbolts on different doors. The two like this have been installed about 2 years and the touchpad has been installed about three. One of them (this model) is installed on a shed directly in the elements while the other two have eves above them (very small overhangs). I am currently replacing the one that is directly in the elements while the other two are still functioning perfectly.

The overhangs are small but it is the difference between getting soaked EVERY single time it rains and rarely ever getting directly rained on. So I would say, no, rain doesn’t “fry” this product but, yes, DIRECT exposure to the elements will likely shorten the lifespan of the lock. On the other hand, it doesn’t take much to reduce this problem (like a 12” overhang 8-10’ above the door). Also, the “shortened” lifespan of mine was still about two years. It was better than I expected knowing it was completely unsheltered.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Keyless Entry. Easy install! Looks great! Works great!
*by J***. on December 4, 2025*

We had a battery operated door lock we had that actually unlocked the door when you put in the code suddenly quit working? We checked around with a locksmith to see if ut could be fixed. Nope. He advised us to look at the door locks that you put in your code and then you turn the door lock. Lots less to go wrong with these door locks. So we bought the same brand door lock but not the fully automatic. We got the semi automatic I guess you could say! It was super easy to install. The it fit exactly where our old had been. So we didn’t need to drill any new holes. And it is just as easy to use! Push the Schlage button, enter your code, turn the deadbolt, open the door!
