There were no wing nuts on mine. Instead they have been replaced with a plastic know on each side. The surface was smooth and comfortable. The curve fits anatomically. I tested mine on myself when I received it and found it a little awkward to put on to myself but that's not a flaw in the device, that is the NATURE of the device. I understand that some people may choose this for use on their own but I bet in most cases there is a partner to handle securing the goodies in the slot and then tightening things down. Since I had NO problem putting this on myself, I'm sure it will be quite functional for those playing with a partner. Now, onto the good things! Pros: Cheap!! Not the finest device out there but this is a bargain for beginners or casual players. Well made. Yes, you could tweak it to improve it if you wanted. But it is smooth and comfortable. It works.
