Book arrived quickly and in good condition
I am absolutely happy with my book. Having ordered it in the middle of winter I was concerned about water damage. I thought that it was really thoughtful of the seller to put the book in a plastic sleeve to help protect it. 5 stars.

Great introduction to European/Celtic shamanism (instead of Native American).
This is probably my favorite introduction into shamanism. If you're into European shamanism (Celtic), instead of Native American shamanism, this book is for you.I'm about 3/4 through it. There are numerous exercises, and one can adapt this to their specific area of interest. A little truth is found in all areas.

Great Intro to Celtic Shamanism
Having learned about Native American shamanism, I really wanted to learn about the practice from the Celtic perspective. So, I picked up this book. Please note: I had very little prior knowledge of Celtic spirituality.Conway writes in a very straightforward manner and covers a lot of ground in her book. She talks about Celtic symbolism, shamanic journeying as well as the roles of various Celtic deities. I also liked how the book was organized into three parts: Oak, Ash and Thorn. Each part had its own theme.I wish Conway went into more detail about the meaning and symbolization of Celtic knots and about the Druid people, as well. Overall, though, I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in ancient spirituality from the Welsh, Irish and Scottish regions.

Excellent book on Celtic Shamanism! There is a "part II" called "Advanced Celtic Shamanism" that is excellent as well.

This book is like the village's wise-person helping you on your spiritual path.
For decades I have had difficulty to explain and properly describe my spiritual path and beliefs to others. It has always been a hurdle to say "Well, it's pagan, but not Wiccan, it's earthly organic, but not structurally rigid." I always knew that religion did not work for me, but my soul always craved spirituality. Thanks in great part to this book, I am now able to use the proper words in order to describe what my spiritual interest is; Celtic Shamanism. There are very few books these days that could be considered a "How To". The amount of information that needs to be covered in order to explain such a complexe subject would be astronomical, yet, the author has found a way by using clever tools and organized yet easily flowing themes to dive deep into the understand of the matter; personal test (series of questions to ponder), diagrams, historical and cultural comparative data, lists of words and glossaries. This book is a treasure for all readers that wish to understand why and how this specific spirituality spread across Europe in the first place and how it became the basis for the understanding of the natural world (and its yearly cycle). This natural spirituality worked for thousands of years. At the end of the read, the reader can acquire great information and leaves the reader asking two questions; if it made so much sense why did it disappear in the first place and why is it not the basis of home spirituality for everyone dealing with these modern day natural issues. A great read and a proud addition to your home library.

Full of useful info. Great addition to my Pagan Library.
I initially wrote a mixed review for this book, but after gaining more experience, both in life and in shamanic practices, I have changed my mind. It is an invaluable reference that compliments other books I have on shamanism, witchcraft and paganism. There is a wealth of information in here, as well as instructions for very useful practices that may help anyone on their spiritual path. I think the mistake I made was reading it as a stand alone book. No matter how great one book is, it is still one person's perspective (assuming there is only one writer), so I still recommend reading around, not because there is anything wrong with this book, but because you should read around anyway. Then make up your own mind. Everyone will have their own unique perspective. Books like this are not to be followed, they are not dogmatic texts like we see in the Abrahamic religions. They are guides to help increase your knowledge and spiritual set of tools to aid in your own unique spiritual path. And Conway's book is a very good guide for the particular topic it focuses on.

Enlightening!
I'm currently taking a Shamanism course for a year at a local new age bookstore, and was quite surprised to see references here to helpful tools and perspectives that have not been covered in class. This book really helped fill in many blanks, and has a lot of meditations to try out. I'm going to try recording them in my own voice so it can be a fuller experience instead of referring to the book if I forget something. Even if Shamanism isn't your chosen path, there are some great concepts and practices here that could help anyone seeking spiritual enlightenment. Highly recommend it!
