I'll never look at movies the same way again!
The section on the editing of "Annie Hall" is worth the price if you love that movie. I never understood the artistry of the film editing process. Sometimes left alone to stitch together a movie, sometimes under the thumb of a director's vision, sometimes a collaborator with the director (who knew Woody Allen could be so open to other people's ideas?)--the editor needs amazing technical knowledge, the gift of storytelling, and the personality of a diplomat. I was particularly fascinated by the evolution of editing from showing the origin of every action (the door opens, the character walks into the room, etc.) to quick cutting from one scene to the other--a skill that the audience was able to master easily and follow the story without all the connective tissue. An excellent introduction to the behind-the-scenes process of movie making.

Great info for fans of these films
I had seen almost all of Ralph Rosenblum's movies and with this book I got the back story. In was very informative. Here you get a good look at the working methods of people such as Mel Brooks and Woody Allen. It was worth it just for the story about the making of Annie Hall. Recommend for all American film buffs.

Inside look at Annie Hall
A fun read, the book could be re-titled, THE CREATING OF ANNIE HALL. Robenblum explains how the Allen's icon of the 70s changed in the editing room from clutter to the paradigm of the modern romance/comedy. Other Allen movies are discussed in detail and the craft of editing is laid out between the lines.

Essential reading for editors - and directors.
A really interesting and readable account of the psychology, art and challenges involved in editing - and the crucial contribution that a good editor can make to the story logic and success of a film project.

One of the best books on editing by an editor
Fantastically interesting book on the subject of editing. The behind the scenes work that went into a film like The Night They Raided Minsky's, taking a year (after the director had buggered off), is phenomenal. Also the chapter on Annie Hall will be hugely interesting for fans of that film and director. Some may find the stuff about his career and working with documentarists dull; for me it was all great.

Good read
Great book for anyone interested in film. Well written and easy to read, I was sorry to finish it. It's more anecdotal, not a detailed study of the technicalities of cutting, although there are some good tips and interesting history of the development of the craft. Really enjoyed it.
