    Very pleased with this purchase!

The Shimano SH-CT40 commuter/touring cycling shoes are an excellent complement to the Shimano PD-T400 Click’R clipless pedal or any pedal that uses the Shimano SH-51 or SH-56 cleat.I purchased these shoes after ordering the PD-T400 pedal and crossed my fingers. In the past, I’ve had poor luck purchasing shoes online. My shoe size falls somewhere between 11.5 and 12, which makes fitting a shoe a trial-and-error experience best left in the store. Add to this the complication that these shoe sizes are European, I was lost! After a bit of research, I learned that the European size 46 translates into a size 11.8, which is exactly between 11.5 and 12. Having learned this, I ordered these shoes with the understanding that they may have to be returned. To my surprise, when they arrived, they were a perfect fit! I was so happy with them and thrilled that I made a nice selection. This shoe type is new to me. I have no experience with cleated riding shoes. When the pedals arrived, I installed them on the bike, and then read the instructions with the shoes to see how to use them with the pedals. The shoes do not come with the SH-56 cleats, so you'll need to purchase the cleats separately. Installation was fairly simple, and the drawings in the instructions helped me figure out the cleat installation. Within less than thirty minutes, these shoes were clipped into the pedals, and I was enjoying them without the need to make any pedal adjustments.A nice feature with this shoe is the cleats are recessed into the sole. This means, when you walk around, you won’t feel the cleat pressing into the ground. You’ll want to be careful walking around in dirt or mud though. The instructions have you insert a sticker on the inside of the shoe, presumably to cover the interior from water or dirt entering the inside of the shoe from below. This is a thin sticker, so you won’t want to saturate the shoe in water or dirt, otherwise you might end up with a messy foot. There is an innersole that you insert into the shoe, and this fits over the cleat mounts from the inside of the shoe. This will protect your foot from any water or dirt that leaches into the shoe, but I wouldn’t trust this to provide 100% protection if faced with water entering the shoe past the sticker. The bottom of the shoe is very hard. Some don’t like this although I do. It’s a riding shoe. I like a solid feel when the shoe is clipped onto the pedal.I’m not a big fan of the laces. This seems to set this shoe apart from more expensive alternatives. For the price though, I have no problem accepting the laces. Lacing the shoes up isn’t that big of a deal.If you price around, you’ll see that these shoes are an excellent deal for the money. They’re stylish, the quality is good, the fit I found to be excellent, and the cleat mounts work perfectly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this shoe to others, but be sure to check a size conversion chart online, and make sure you order the right size. If the shoe is too big or too small, everything I stated above means nothing. Everything starts with a properly fitted shoe.Happy riding!

Cost to much but they are the real deal. Love them.

I am a penny pincher for sure, so letting go of the money to get these bike shoes was hard for me. Shimano has designed some really great shoes here. They are a low profile, comfortable and a firm sole to help with pedaling. I wear a size 12 shoe but I like lots of toe room. These felt like maybe a 12.5 but they feel great. I can walk in them to grab a drink in a store on the way home from a ride but I would not like to walk very long in them. The clip would get pretty beat up walking around to much. They would probably work for hiking in the woods but again, I would not want to cake up the clips with dirt. I did notice that the heel seem to slip when I first put them on but after a few rides, the heel seems to have formed to my foot. I went with the black shoes because they would show less dirt. I got the Shimano PD-T400 CLICK'R Clipless Pedals for these and they work great. You may want to wait and see if the price goes down but the shoe & pedal combo sure makes you feel like you and the bike are one machine during the ride. Enjoy. I hope Shimano reads this and send me some free stuff.Almost 200 miles in these shoes now and they still work perfect. Love them.

Fit Nice! 48 on a normal US size 13w

*by R***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 25, 2015*

After a 15 year hiatus and tuning up the old hybrid/commuter I quickly found out my 20 year old SPD shoes were dry rotted and useless. I tried cage pedals and couldn't cope. There's no going back after clipless, I looked for a decent pair of inexpensive SPD shoes that would match the utilitarian look of the bike and these are what I came up with. They fit and feel good, not easy with a wide size 13 foot. They look well constructed and cleat install was a breeze. There were no panels to knife out of the sole, just a screwed in cover to remove. They are definitely breathable because the mesh type uppers. The aren't as stiff as Racers but appropriately stiffer than sneakers but still comfortable to walk in. GET THIS the cleats DON"T contact my tile floored apt when I walk. When the snow melts I'll tell you if they lightly scrape on concrete (a common SPD issue). All in all the fit for me and my casual reentry into cycling was excellent. Only time will tell about the actual quality hence only 4 stars. As of now I'm very happy.Update. I love these shoes! The cleats don't click on the street, sidewalk or floors at all. Well except on pebbles, but that's to be expected. They are so comfortable, I wish I ordered 2 pairs now.
