I have only tested HDMI input - nothing else. No test of the analog audio, but the extra-thin manual says analog audio only works with component video input.* it is a stand alone device that records hidef video from an HDMI input. No computer, just your added USB storage connected.* it is simple - connect a video input, plug in a USB storage device, press the red record button and see the light change from green to red. Press the same record button again to stop recording, and wait for red light to change to solid green as the final frames are written. There is no power button. There are no settings. There is no computer to connect.* recorded audio is stereo MP4A, regardless of the input - 5.1 DTS is down sampled to stereo. It is about 185Kbps AAC, so not extremely high quality, but good enough for most human ears.* None of my video editing tools let me edit the generated files directly, so use ffmpeg or handbrake to transcode the files into an h.264/aac/mkv files which can be edited.* Because the device supports FAT32, the files are split just under 2GB in size, even when NTFS storage is being used.* the h.264 HW encoder in this device is more concerned with capturing a great video than file size. After transcoding with ffmpeg (constant quality of 19 [extremely high quality]), the 2GB files are usually between 300MB and 450MB. Then remove the junk and merge all the files back together.* Filenames are generated - Encode_1.mp4 ... Encode_1_1.mp4, Encode_1_2.mp4 - this is a single recording session ... each file holds about 15-25 min of video. The first file doesn't have a "part" number. Example filenames: Encode_35.mp4, Encode_35_1.mp4, Encode_35_2.mp4, Encode_35_3.mp4, Encode_35_4.mp4 ... I've pressed "record" 35 times, so far.* Only FAT or NTFS storage is supported - no Linux file systems.
