Square patches don't seem to work as well--they don't cover the jag as well, and they bunch up more so I've always had to use smaller square patches in order to make it through the bore. That being said, both circular and square patches can be used with equal effectiveness, I just find circular patches easier and more consistent. **Q: Will this work with a flexible rod on a Ruger 10/22? I'd like to clean it without using a pull-cord, and without having to disassemble it each time.** A: You’re always better off using a bore-snake like the ones from Hoppe’s. You never want to clean from the bore end to the beach. Always beach to bore. Cleaning from the beach and with a rod and jag requires disassembly. If you’re not going to dissemble then a bore snake is your friend. **Q: Will this jag fit a Hoppes rod?** A: Yes, but with the adapter that comes with the Hoppe’s shotgun rod. **Q: is this the right size for my 223 AR?** A: Works for a 22-250 and the 223 is very close to this size -- 22-250 bullet is .224 and .223 = 5.664mm ---The Pro-shot states .22 to 6mm so I would assume it would work fine. I use this Pro-Shot jag with the round pads used to remove face and eye make up. They are cheap as chips for a pack of 100 and work really well at cleaning and polishing your shotgun barrels. The spike on the Pro-Shot jag secures the pad in place and the grooves stop the pad from coming off the jag inside the barrel. So, you can draw it back and forwards inside the shotgun barrels. As long as you don't push the jag out of the end of the barrel the pad stays put.
