Steve hanks
If you are fan of this artists work or want to study his technique then this is a book for you or you should already have it?!... If you don't then shop around on all the Amazon's countries websites ie comparing America to the UK to Germany and France as prices can really vary but watch out for the postage....The book is a collection of Steve Hanks paintings from 1996 to 2006. Approx 160 pages. All carrying a picture or maybe two and sometimes three. He talks about some of the paintings and what his focus was while he was composing the picture and the reactions he has received from the public towards them. The book doesn't demonstrate his technique in any formal way. This is not an Atelier manual. However what it does do is show his collection of water colour paintings that can be used for study and how the Artist has progressed technically in the 10 years. He has applied a glazing technique found in oil paintings to watercolours. The book also includes his biography. If you want to hear him talk about his ideas for this publication then find him on YouTube. The book is approx 1.5 times larger than a A4 piece of paper so is slightly larger than a normal sized book. Anything smaller would be detrimental to this Artist's delightful wonderfully exhilirating but thoughtful and inspiring work. Apart from Art Manuals this is now top of my list and I know I will never part with it! Moving On: The Art of Steve Hanks

Disappointed as it has a strong musty odor as if it were stored in a basement and being that it is paper pages, it is absorbent to the dampness that entered the pores of the paper and retains that smell.

Astonishing realism
Hanks is an astonishing artist, and if not THE best realistic watercolorist working in the country today, then certainly ONE of the very best. He's an incomparable realist and figurative artist. His portraits of children are phenomenal. If you're considering this book (and I simply can't get enough of it, it was worth every penny), do keep in mind that many of the paintings are nudes of beautiful young women. However, the painting I like best is a self-portrait of Hanks, looking like a hippie, with one of his young children. The book itself is gorgeously produced in a large format, with beautiful reproductions and interesting text.

One of the best watercolorists out there
I am a member of the Southwest Watercolor Society and a grad from the Kansas University art program. I own Steve Hanks first book as well as this one. I do people as well as stills and plein air landscapes so I can appreciate Steves use of color, form, light, shadow and texture. This book has been out for a while now but I enjoy comming back to it for pleasure and reference. As a coffee table book, it is always grabed first. I'm looking forward to having the book autographed someday.

Moving On
"Moving On" is a beautiful book of Steve Hanks paintings. What makes it realy special is the artists explanation of his works. His insight helps you understand his motives and his intentions when he created each piece and shows you things that you may have missed on first glance. I love it!
