Lovely book! Wonderful seller!
Gorgeous photos give you an armchair peek into some of Charleston’s most beautiful and inviting private gardens, those designed by Mr Briggs. I especially like that his actual layout plans for some of them are also included. Although I live in very different gardening zone, I enjoyed the section on the plants that are widely used in Charleston gardens. In addition, my copy is a used one that was described as in “Very good” condition; in truth, it seems almost brand new. Thank you, seller!!!

Loutrel Winslow Briggs
I met Loutrel Briggs when I was a little Girl. My father, Frank Winslow Elliott was Loutrel's cousin. My husband and I have visited many of his gardens in Charleston and I own a copy of Loutrel's book "Charleston Gardens". I will welcome James Cothran's new book and savor his appreciation of the outstanding landscapes designed by artist, Briggs. Hopefully, his designs will be preserved for future generations. What a Treasure!!!! Joy Elliott Thacher

extremely overpriced for what you actually get
I have never returned a book, however, this is one of two that I am returning - both about Charleston gardens. Of the 210 pages of this book, 50% consisted of appendices and indexes. While there is excellent information about Loutrel Briggs, that 50% means nothing to the majority of people who garden and especially admire the gardens of Charleston. At half the price, this book would still be somewhat overpriced. Very disappointing!

disappointed
I was disappointed. I wanted to see more examples of Mr. Briggs gardens as well as more landscape designs. I would not purchase this book again.

Charleston Gardens
A good book with one fault: a large portion of the book consists of inventory lists for various landscaping projects without notes or explanation. Perhaps some judicious editing here would have helped. As a reader, I would have liked to learn more about Mr Briggs and see additional plans, drawings and photographs detailing his work.
