A useful guide to churchwarden duties
I'm an experienced churchwarden but still found some interesting and useful information in this book. It is an easy read and not hard work (which some "official" church publications can be) and there's a bit of humour thrown in.It is based on the author's experience in relatively-large churches so may not fit perfectly for a churchwarden of a smaller, rural parish but there's still a lot to gain from reading it.

Great for new wardens.
Friendly and personal introduction to the role and responsibilities of a churchwarden. Gods for more experienced ones too.

An enjoyable read, full of information and humour
It could be that Iโm about to become a churchwarden - not through desire, but more out of necessity and my inability to say no - so I read this little gem of a book, in the hope it would give me some idea of whatโs involved.Matthew doesnโt waffle, he writes clearly and with humour about the post of churchwarden, and passes on much advice learned over the years he has himself served in various churches.Initially I thought the book would be boring, but having started it, I couldnโt put it down! However, having read it, Iโm not sure Iโm up to the job - there seems to be so much involved and so much to be responsible for. I would like to have been Matthewโs assistant warden, but as thatโs not possible, I will just have to remember his advice. Our present churchwarden has been worn to a frazzleโฆ.. that could well be me in the future.

I was pleased to stumble upon this book, which I've found very informative. Good value, good service.

Useful and friendly
This is a welcome alternative to the drier 'rules and regulations' books. It is written in a relaxed anecdotal style with humour, which makes for a pleasant read. As this is my second church as a warden I could identify with many of the author's experiences. A good read.

Practical easy to understand guidance
Although not a CW found this an easy read to establish what the job actually entails - would be easy to use a s a reference book once read.

I never knew there was so much to being a churchwarden
This is very readable and a thorough insight into the work of a churchwarden. The various aspects of the job are discussed in a logical and organised fashion, and Matthew's anecdotes are written with humour, respect and patience towards all involved. Full of practical advice, the book elucidates the diverse responsibilities of the churchwarden; recognising that the post is a challenge and then simply telling you how these challenges can be met. The book covers such a range of subjects (from the maintenance of historical buildings to building relationships / teamwork issues) that as a non church goer I still found it interesting, and for today's churchwardens it would be indispensable. A very warmhearted, positive book and nicely up to date.
