The fleece side is not water proof but it will stop the water wicking straight off the surface. If you use the plush side up then the water would bead on the surface and run straight off. That is my logic. Plus the fleece side does feel good to the touch and our dogs appear to like the fleece side to snuggle into. **Q: would this blanket protect a person from light showers?** A: Hola😀 Really I don’t know but I think so. It’s my puppy’s blanket and certainly is ‘accident leak’ proof😅 nothing came through and saved my bed linen laundry😉 maybe it would, maybe not🤔 I haven’t been outside with it, also you would have to curl up for it to cover an adult, but kids would be ‘fully covered’ to use an insurance company term😄 I hope this is helpful.
