## Description

Product Description The Control Spray Max provides a smooth, consistent finish in less time than traditional painting methods. The controls give you the ability to adjust based on the project you’re working on and the type of material being used, which are features that a spray can or brush can’t offer! The spray patterns range from 1/2" to 12" wide depending on the settings, which allow for optimum control and precision for fine finish work. HVLP technology uses a high volume of air at low pressure to atomize materials into fine particles. This results in a professional finish, with virtually no overspray. Package includes a Control Max sprayer, 1 qt. metal cup, 1.5 qt. plastic cup, 20 ft. hose, viscosity cup and user manual. Please reference owner's manual for tips, troubleshooting and thinning guidelines. From the Manufacturer The Control Spray Max sprays materials in patterns from 1/2" to 12" wide with optimum control and precision making it superior to brushes and spray cans for fine finish work. HVLP technology uses a high volume of air at low pressure to atomize materials into fine particles. This results in a professional finish, with virtually no overspray.

Review: Easy, Simple, Beautiful. - My wife has been wanting to repaint our kitchen cabinets but is having difficulty talking me into doing them. She found the hvlp sprayers (never heard of them) and said how easy it would be with one. Curiosity got the best of me so I looked the sprayers up and was pretty convinced a $100 or less sprayer was a piece of junk. I had a small project that has needed painting so I figured I would order one and see if they would work. Could always send it back. Ain't desertcart great. I looked at a few and decided on this one, mostly because of the hose, figured it would be lighter than one with pump on sprayer, plus it had pretty good reviews. Bought some Behr Ultra semi-gloss latex enamel. Thinning suggestion on can said no more than 2oz. Per gallon. I thinned it, stirred it, strained it did a quick test on a piece of cardboard with pressure dial on medium, was satisfied so I started painting. I am really impressed with this little sprayer. Paint goes on very even with fine spray particles, no issue with runs and fairly fast. I could have thinned a little more for faster painting. Extremely easy to use and a beautiful paint job. You will never get this with brush or roller and not nearly a messy either. Very little overspray. I like the hose, it is very long, soft and very flexible. Cleaning the sprayer is very easy and simple. I dissembled the spray nozzel (4 parts to that, watch out for the little red washer) washed with water hose until no paint showing. Removed paint tube, washed it and cup with hose and used water hose and washed paint off of every part. Take about five minutes. Put it back together sprayed some water through it still works. Removed cup and stored in box until next time. Pictures are of first project. Wood is fairly rough so hard to see just how smooth the paint is, there is also a good bit of trash laying on deck from trees overnight. I did tape up the glass and other unpainted surfaces. Anyway this was the most fun I've ever had painting. Maybe I should say the least pain in the butt I've ever had painting.
Review: Easy, Fun and Economical. Get one. - Just finished my third project using this sprayer in approximately 2 weeks. During today's project (painting the garage doors) I got to thinking how I had to review this sprayer as soon as I was done. I haven't tried any other sprayers on the market so I have nothing to compare this one to so this review is based solely on my experience with the Wagner HVLP. Bought it to begin with to paint the shutters on our home. We had the exterior brick painted off white and the painter wanted $450 to paint the shutters so to save some money I bought this and did it myself. The shutters turned out great but did require plenty of prep work (cleaning, filling holes, sanding). Could not imagine painting louvered shutters by hand so the sprayer was completely in its element on them. I set up a stand in my back yard on a calm day with drop cloths on the grass and knocked them all 14 out with two coats in about 3 hours. As others have said, practice on a box or board and get your paint consistency correct before beginning. I was using a pretty heavy exterior latex from Porter and would just add a splash of water at a time until it sprayed how I wanted it to. The other projects have been painting two wooden benches that were worn out by sun and rain exposure. With a light sanding and wipe down they took paint extremely well and look brand new. Today's project was garage doors being painted to match the color of the shutters. With proper cleaning using TSP and the necessary taping off they look awesome and give the classic white dated garage door a contemporary update to a grayish beige. I am so glad I purchased this sprayer, it has already saved tons of money and time and has been a pleasure to use. As with any tool you want to last you a long time, it must be well taken care of. I will spend probably 20 mins cleaning it after each use. The directions talk mainly about spraying soapy water through the system but I will take it completely apart and hold it upside down and let the water stream run into the intake while holding the trigger down. You will see watery paint come out for minutes even after spraying soapy water through it under power. I also use an old toothbrush and Krud Kutter spray to get into all the crevices and to clean the exterior. The only con I have found is tying to spray at angles besides straight on. If the straw sucks up any air it will splatter paint instead of spray. This is something you have to get used to and twist the straw in advance according to angles you think you might be experiencing. Highly recommended. Easy, fun and economical to use.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone use it as a Spray tan system?**
A: I have. The turbine has similar specs (i.e. correct pressure and airflow) to some other HVLP spray tanning systems; however, for me the cup size was too large and spray pattern on the included nozzle made it difficult to not overspray. I purchased a wagner "spray tan cartridge attatchment" aka "Wagner Detail Front End Kit" (ASIN B00FDZDO32). It works ok but the cup size is still fairly large and tended to overspray . I have since replaced that gun with a "Maxi-Mist Spray Tanning Gun Replacement Lightweight" ($35 on ebay) and am happy with the results even though I had to adapt the hose to fit. Maxi-mist's MaxiMist™ Evolution TNT Spray Tanning System looks like the wagner painted all black and I wonder if the front end gun ($50) is compatible. I don't use this professionally but can say its works, especially with a purpose made gun. I got best results with the pressure set just above minimum.

**Q: can this be used for oil base paints?**
A: Yes. Cleaning oil-based primer took forever to clean because you must use mineral spirits and be sure to get every bit of it off the interior parts. Cleaning latex-based primer and paint out of the sprayer with soapy water was much easier but still time-consuming, especially since I tried to get every bit of primer/paint off the outside of the sprayer and pump in case I want to sell it if we ever finish the kitchen-painting project. I am an almost elderly homemaker, amateur painter, and I was able to use it successfully.

**Q: Do I need an air compressor for this? Or is this a stand alone tool?**
A: The base unit has a blower or low-pressure compressor built in, no external compressor required. Make sure the base is sitting where it will pull in clean air, no dust or debris.

**Q: Does this sprayer work on ceilings?**
A: It'll work. I wouldn't though. It has a 3-4 inch spray pattern which requires several passes for an adequate coat. Would take several hours for a 10x10 ceiling. Rollering will be 5x faster.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definite time saver. Thinning is a hassle, but no issues so far.
*by J***E on August 14, 2017*

So far so good. Using this to prime and paint kitchen cabinets. This, so far, has been a definite time saver. The bonding primer we're using had to be majorly, majorly thinned to be able to spray with this, so that trial and error takes quite a while. There's no runout guidelines given by the manufacturer of either the sprayer or the paint, so it's sort of guess work, which is the one complaint I'd have. The viscosity cup does not help if you don't know how long the runout should be. Even thinned enough to spray completely fine, the paint did not completely empty in the viscosity cup. So use that as a guideline, but know you might have some frustration getting it thin enough to run through that tiny little hole. Once thinned, though, it was great. The spray was even, and after practicing and making adjustments, coverage was good, even, and the finish was smooth. For the front of 11 cabinet doors, I'd say we were done in less than an hour. One word of advice - if you are using a bonding primer, definitely go back over the spray with a brush so that it absorbs into the wood. We did not do this and will probably have to respray a few spots where the primer is just sitting on top and didn't absorb in. No issues spraying at a downward angle, or with the nozzle clogging at all. Over spray isn't great, but it's not as bad as expected, either. I'd say covering about 2-3 feet in any direction was adequate for our project. Please take care to cover everything you don't want paint on, either way, but I expected a much worse over spray. The worst over spray was actually the back spray rather than the front or sides, but we were working outside so I can't speak to how it would be inside. Cleanup is easy, just run soapy water through the gun until it comes out clear - took less than 20 minutes. So far, the best $ I've spent.
