DIY Bacterial Genome Engineering CRISPR Kit

Played with it a couple of days and decided to study law.

This is my first experience with a science kit outside of a school setting. I have read about CRISPR from the countless articles. It seemed so advance and difficult. When I stumbled upon this kit I immediately purchased it. It took a couple of tries but I got it to work! Plus now I have some basic tools (Pipette, tips and glass bottle) for future experiments. I would recommend giving this kit a try if you want to start doing some biological engineering.

This is an amazing intro to genetic engineering. I bought this kit for my daughter and I to do one summer. I dont have a science background, but everything was very straightforward. I contacted customer service product and they had stellar help. We submitted this to our school science fair and won first place! Highly reccomend this CRISPR kit and will buy more future kits/products from this company. It's amazing how cheap it is!

Just enjoyed success with the starter kit. One thing to study/read about CRISPR-Cas9, completely different to actually do it. Thanks for making bioengineering accessible for practical education.

I had two advanced undergraduate students (one Neuroscience major, one Biochemistry major) attempt gene editing using this kit. After three attempts, using two separate sets of the reagents, there was no gene editing, as evidenced by no growth of bacterial colonies from transformed cells on streptomycin (i.e., the E. coli were not edited to acquire strep resistance). The students followed the protocol precisely and also attempted plating at various time points during bacterial recovery after transformation (1 hour, 4 hours, and the suggested optimal of 12 hours). Furthermore, the company failed to respond to emails asking for technical assistance. Also, the "plasmid maps" linked on the company website are NOT plasmid maps, but merely DNA sequences of short regions of the plasmids - i.e., the company doesn't even supply enough information for experienced persons to troubleshoot their protocol.

Great kit. Needs more instructions about repeating the experiments as there’s enough material for 3 experiments but the instructions may lead you to use all of it in one go. Survived imperfect conditions and transit.
