Most excellent vendor and shipper
The book is actually new and agree with vendor that it might never have been used. Book cover was still in the 'plastic' cover. I mostly want to write about the 3rd party vendor, Pinetta Books. The book arrived early, but their packaging and shipping made sure that book arrived in mint condition. I would order from them again in a flash. I do not know them and had never heard of them before this order. Great price as well. Better than buying new.The book is from the ORIGINAL owner of Norske Nook in Osseo. It is great. I bought the new book when I was back in the Midwest a few weeks ago. It is good and has lots of great and newer recipes. Certainly a good buy for a cookbook. But this one is from the view of a farm wife who worked hard and created a great business. Wonderful intro and stories throughout and such helpful tips and hints on cooking. Wish I would have had this book 40 years ago.As for Norske Nook at 3 locations in Wisconsin, I go to the Osseo location as it is close to where my relatives are, but I brought back 2 pies in a their plastic containers and then in a new sealed cake container-driving from Wisconsin to Arizona. Those pies traveled great (peach and lingonberry apple) and even froze a few pieces to eat 3 weeks later. Every bite was as great and 'fresh' as when I bought them. They have amazing home cooking but go early as the line for a table is long. It is a small location. Never go to Wisconsin without going there.

Just like Grammy is talking to me!!!
Curiously, I recieved this book the day my Grandpa passed away. I had ordered it a few days before, and the day I came home from the hospital (he had a massive heart attack), there it was in the mail :) He was a proud Norwegian, born & raised on a farm in WI. I bought this cookbook because I needed some down-home recipes. My family are picky eaters, and don't like "fancy" food. My husband is a good ol' Southern Boy, so I have a hard time finding new recipes everyone will enjoy. That being said, I LOVE this cookbook!!! It's just like my Grammy is talking to me, in simple speak, anyone can follow the recipes in here! The book is filled with down home food that will stand the test of time. Be sure to stock up on butter, shortening, and heavy cream before making anything from the book :) This is not a cookbook for anyone watching their weight, but I have to say, it's worth every delicious calorie! There are recipes for just about everything in here, and I love the fact it really doesn't take much more time to make food from scratch (for the most part, sure some things are much more time consuming). I think this would make a wonder bridesmaid shower gift, as it is not all Norske food, just good old fashioned stick to your ribs food with a few Norske recipes at the end of the book. The stories included will make anyone smile, and if you are Scandanavian, you will surely feel like you are reading your Great Grandmother's recipe cards. All in all, the best cookbook of my collection, which says a lot considering I have a Southern Boy (who likes everything fried with a side of bacon), and my Norwegian/Hungarian-Czech pallate (yes, that's quite a combination).

Fun and informative
I enjoyed reading this book very much. I was raised on a farm and understand the work ethic that she talks about. We were raised to work hard, and every penny mattered. Making your own food does save money. She has a lot of tips on making homemade tasty food with inexpensive ingredients. My friends used to wonder why I always made a double batch of cookies, well, one batch did not last too long in a big farm family. If you have a hankering for homemade plain type cookies or fancier ones, they are both here. I lost my recipe for farm type honey cookies cut with a doughnut cutter years ago, and I was surprised to see it in this book. She also has gingersnaps, molasses cookies and bars and date bars.If you want to make your own bread, the instructions in the book will help you.Of course you want to look at the pie recipes. If you were raised on a farm, you might have had rhubarb pie. There is a great rhubarb cream pie recipe. It has cream and egg yolks added right into the rhubarb filling. The sour cream raisin pie recipe is here. You might be interested in the chapter on scandinavian recipes. You will find the fruit soup, kransekake, krumkaka, and lefse recipes as well as meat and fish recipes. You might want to make homemade doughnuts, both the yeast variety and non yeast variety are in this book. The stories and anecdotes scattered throughout the book are wonderful. It would not be a farm cookbook without the jam, pickle and relish recipes.I enjoyed reading this book very much , hope you will too.

Excellent Book
I received it (as a gift many years ago. from my mother-in-law) I was very lucky to get a signed copy. which was many years ago when it was first published. My husband's family grew up in Osseo, WI, and knew Helen Myers. I had to buy my elder daughter a copy for Christmas. I would have handed down my copy but every good cook that really uses her book tends to get sticky pages from all the use, lol. I am going to make her sour cream raisin pies for my son-in-law's birthday. Unless I hurt too bad then my daughter is going to make the pies, lol This is my favorite cookbook!
