I can't review how well it'll work for other surfaces, but it's good for HARDWOOD FLOORS.Before I comment, it's worthwhile talking about chair mat requirements.What you REALLY WANT from a chair mat IF you have HW FLOORS:- Smooth mat underside for more floor grip- Some weight to the mat so it doesn't slide around- Lie flat so it doesn't slide around- Material that is chemically inert- A textured top surface that provides tactile feedback (so you know you're still on the mat) and doesn't scratchHow this mat stacks up:- Smooth underside for better grip (CHECK, *I dragged a 4-leg chair w/o wheels on the mat and it DOESN'T move)- Weight (CHECK)- Lie flat (CHECK, shipped flat, not even sure it can be rolled since it's almost hard plastic)- CHEMICALLY INERT (CHECK, polycarbonate, 15 mins and a waste of perfectly good coffee later I've proven stains/spills won't seep from the mat unlike most lousy shoe mats I've bought)- Textured top surface (CHECK, polycarbonate doesn't scratch easily, and texture surface prevents scratches from showing)What you DON'T/SHOULDN'T CARE ABOUT:- Clear finish (this is pointless, you only need to vaguely see the HW floor underneath from afar, and causes a mat to be easily scratched which was a major complaint for other similar products)UPDATE: A new reviewer mentioned their MAT SIZE WASN'T ACCURATE. I just measured mine and it's 35 x 47, an inch shorter than advertised (36 x 48). I won't deduct the rating for now since I don't roll around on the mat (somewhat tight L-shaped desk).But buyers beware.

I thought this was going to be delivered in an over-sized flat box, eliminating my main concern that if shipped rolled up in a smaller box--the mat would not immediately lie flat on the floor. Well, the mat was delivered rolled up in a smaller box, but it immediately laid flat and that worry was eliminated. The mat is thin, but so far very sturdy. Being thin, it actually makes it easier if you roll your office chair off the mat, to roll it back on without feeling like you're hitting a curb. So far, 110% satisfied and the thinner construction has turned out to be a big positive. I gave it 4 stars for sturdiness as it's only been 3 weeks since purchase and I want to see how it holds up longer term. Highly recommended at this point in time and I put this mat through a lot of 10-12 hour, high use days in my home office.

This works OK. It slides around a bit on the floor. Seems to hold up well and protects the floor if you cna keep the chair on it. It is pretty small. I am looking for a bigger one.

This mat is great! Because of the size of my desk my brother had to cut the mat to fit. It fits great. I have another table that is in another part of the office, and I can just stay in my desk chair and roll to it and roll back with no problem. I don't even know I have rolled over the mat when I get back to my desk! Now, my brother did tape it down in 4 areas, but we are not sure it was needed. He did it since he had cut it and was not sure if he had done anything to the mat. It does not slide around. I was so surprised that I can walk from the wood floor onto the mat and not even trip or notice that I am now on the mat! I love this mat; I have never had any mats like this before!

The mat came as promised and very quickly. It was rolled up as they said but I opened it up and it immediately laid flat with no creases or curling. It is a larger mat so it came rolled up as they said it would and I had no problem with it at all. I was expecting to have to put it in the sun as I read reviews that said it was hard to lay flat. I never had that problem and we have 8 inch wood floors. Although it didn't appear that it would slid at all on our floors which are coated the 25" lip fit perfectly so that I could slid just a fraction of it under the actual desk to insure it wouldn't move. Love the mat and it is protecting the floors now.

I was excited about this chair mat, as I've been using one at work that was intended for carpet. The nubs on the underneath had led to damage on the floor and cracking on the existing mat, so I was anxious to use this. However, the first time that I put it down on the floor when my chair wasn't on it, it spilled me on the floor like I was slipping on ice. Now we're not comfortable using it, as my chair might roll off of it, leading to a broken bone or worse. I'm not quite sure how this is intended to stay put on a hard/hardwood floor, but it is slicker than sn0t, and now I'm tasked with finding something to anchor this mat in order to use it. Make sure that you're aware of it before wiping out yourself.

First, these mats are very small for an office chair. This is my fault for thinking the measurements would work when they clearly don't. I can't slide around my desk without falling off the mat. I will take responsibility for this though as I should have considered the measurements a little more before purchase.What I did not know and did not predict is how slippery these mats are. I have nearly fallen several times when stepping on the mat. The mat does not stick to my floors at all. In fact, it is so bad that when I use my feet to push my chair out, the chair goes back and the mat slides forward. This mat does not stick to the floor at all. Unfortunately to ship these mats back would cost me more than it is worth and I am out about $75.00. Do not buy these mats. If you need to protect hardwood floors, look at buying roller blade wheels for your office chair. Not only are they cheaper, but you won't slip and fall or have your chair fall of a cheap mat constantly.
